If you are so interested and that is the direction you want to go in, you have to ask yourself why haven’t you? You won’t get into a good film school, but you may get into one of the many decent to good colleges that have well enough regarded film/media/tv programs that aren’t direct admit. Look for them. Look in the College Majors section of the forum.

But here is a timely article for you:

<a href=“So You Want to Get Into the Film Industry? Great Ways to Get Started | HuffPost College”>HuffPost - Breaking News, U.S. and World News | HuffPost;

I know a couple of girls who went to Chapman in LA which has a well regarded film program. They did not major in film. One got an unpaid internship for some industry related firm doing PR. Her ‘reward’ was to get a placement at a big name talent agency where Yale graduates are fighting to get an entry level $12 an hour job. They start out doing clerical work and if they are lucky they get picked as an assistant after some time. She was able to get her friend, a creative writing major, a job too. And that friend got another friend from that college a job too. One of the perks of the job is that you are allowed to get jobs for friends. They are able to make industry connections that way. The first one is working for a production company now. The second one is miserable. It is very hard to live for a couple of years in L.A. on $12 per hour . But the lesson here is to go to a college where you will make connections with people who go to work in the industry. I also know an Emerson grad who got a job the same way. She brought home the pilot script for Desperate Housewives and it was fun to read. I also know a very young producer who went to NYU film school but was not a direct admit. Was accepted in as an internal transfer. Got a very good job as producer’s assistant on new HBO show right out of college.
