My assumption is you are trying to do business. For umich, if you are applying as a pre-admit to Ross, especially this late, it will be a long shot. However, I do think you have a fair shot at getting into LSA. Go ahead and apply pre-admit to Ross, as you will receive separate decisions from the unit you apply to (whether LSA, engineering, etc.) and Ross. You have to get admitted from the unit you applied to before your application gets forwarded to Ross. If you get admitted into the unit you applied to, but not Ross, you can try again for Ross freshman year. Most people who get into Ross get in by applying freshman year.
I don’t think your music supplement will do much unless you intend to major in music.
@ayyyyyyy you know if youre in the top 10% by rank.
10/100, usually weighted and UW correlate, but you need to be in the top 10 for both to have the best chances. ask your GC, its weird that your school doesnt tell you.
@ayyyyyyy yes rolling admissions is a large part of the reason.
To my knowledge, umich rarely gives merit based scholarships, even to IS students, because everybody that enrolls is strong academically. Most scholarships tend to be need based and you often have to be IS to be considered. I don’t think they really consider OOS students for scholarships, because they probably have the idea that if you made the choice to go OOS, you decided that you were willing to pay that kind of tuition. If you are OOS, they may at least be willing to give you a loan. Any merit based scholarships students may have likely came from external sources.
UMich does give merit scholarships to both in state and OOS students, even up to full ride. However, you need to be around the top 1% of admitted students. For OOS students, the large scholarships (besides a dozen or so full rides for in state and OOS) are $20K per year for both CoE and LSA. Your GPA makes you unlikely to get merit scholarship. In addition, I have heard they have changed the admission cut off date for merit scholarships from Feb 1 to Dec 24 this year. In other words, you will not be eligible to merit scholarships even if you are admitted in RD. On the other hand, UMich does provide need based aids to low income students from OOS. Your family income is slightly above the threshold (~$35K) for the best aid but is within the range that would get significant amount of aids. Have you tried their NPC to estimate your cost?

None are for sure but youll probably get into at least one of your (many) reach schools. I guess your GPA is a little low and your subject tests are certainly low but your ACT is solid. Best of luck.
I love the sax EC! It’s unique and shows a lot about you. Congrats on Notre Dame. For the very top colleges on your list (like Ivies), I would say it’s a reach bc of your just slightly low GPA, but I think for the others you have a good chance. Solid stats, test scores and ECs. Good luck!!
You have a great test score and your academics are decent. That GPA is a little low but it isn’t that bad. You have some great EC’s with those internships and such. You should get into at least one of your reach schools and will likely get into several of the others. I think you are a strong applicant, good luck!
From what you’ve posted and what you’ve said in previous threads, I think the Ivies and Stanford are going to be very high reaches for you. Your grades are on the low side and you said you took four AP courses already but are not self-reporting any scores because you didn’t take two exams and received a 3 and a 2 on the ones you did. Some AOs might find the lack of scores strange. I have even known AOs to call schools looking for the AP scores if they were seriously considering the candidate. You also said you have some Bs again this year which you would like your GC to explain away again in their mid year report. This may or may not work since you’ve asked your GC to talk about past low grades for previous years in the context of extenuating circumstances. At some point, AOs might just think it’s time to move onto the next candidate rather than keep giving you a pass.
Finally, I think your ECs are unusual and interesting. However, the apparent lack of recognition or awards in ballet and sax is concerning. As for sending in the music supplement. Without any awards to establish your credentials, I doubt the piece will be sent to any music departments for evaluation. Unfortunately, if you’re just sending in a tape, there’s no way to know if it’s you playing the instrument (believe it or not, kids have tried sending in other people playing an instrument). Speaking of which, do you have another CC user account? I don’t want to mention the other username but someone else is claiming to have your achievements.
I hope I’m wrong about your chances and I very well could be since I’m only going off what you’ve posted. Your essays, recs and ECs could offset less than ideal grades, idk.
Your ACT score is amazing. However, your subject test scores are low for the ivies and other top schools. I don’t know much about the GPA on a 4.0 scale, but it seems fine. Your ECs are really interesting and amazing. You have described that your essays are great, so I assume that all of your essays would be similar to that. I think that you have a strong chance of getting into NYU, WashU, UCLA, and probably UC Berkeley too. The ivies are crapshoots for all the applicants, but you stand a good chance of getting into one ivy. Try to retake the subject tests if you can.
I think being a male ballet dancer is really going to set you apart
Stanford (pls) reach (its a reach for everyone but like most people know, stanford has been trying to bolster their music program so I think your sax supplement is going to help a lot)
Brown low reach
Columbia reach
Dartmouth low reach/reach
Cornell low reach
Yale reach
Nyu high match
Northwestern low reach/high match
UChicago low reach
UMich low reach (hard for oos)
UPenn (Wharton) reach

Your ACT is really great, but you took only 4 APs the first three years of HS. Unless your school only offers 7 (and you’re taking all of them), then they will see that you really didn’t make the most out of high school, and your UWGPA is 3.8 with only 4 APs. Besides that, you’re a really formidable applicant.
On oboe, I’ve played in the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensemble’s International Youth Wind Orchestra, made it into CBDA all-state symphonic band, was accepted into the New York Wind Orchestra to take a tour of northern Europe playing Mackey’s music, play in SLO Wind Orchestra (all adults since 10th grade), had paid performances with professional orchestras in SLO county, etc… Even with all of this, a music supplement for me is iffy since I’m applying for Philosphy, Politics and Economics major. Unless your saxophone performance is CBDA all-state good, I don’t know if I would send it in as a music supplement.
@oboeplayingcorgi Thanks! My school doesn’t offer AP/ Honor classes for freshman, so the amount of APs I’ve taken is pretty above average for my school compared to other schools (and Honors are weighted the same as APs), and people in the top 5% of my class take about 4-5 AP’s (really weird lol).
Dang, congrats on your past achievements! And yes, one of the officials of the CBDA all-state jazz band directly contacted me to audition, but didn’t end up joining due to family issues. My upperclassmen friend was, in fact, first chair in CBDA all-state and introduced me to him in the first place.
Here are my initial thoughts looking through this:
Amazing ACT that will defintely help you
SAT not too bad but not great
GPA is great but it’s not as amazing as a 3.9+
4 APs is good
Very diverse volunteering, EC’s, work will make you stand out
If you claim to have a good essay that will be great and definitely be key to getting in
You do need a better hook yours isn’t that great maybe about your choice of diversity like a male ballet dancer and soccer for example mine is: I’m a male Hispanic harpist… Which is very good because male Hispanics who p,at the harp are one in a million
After reading through this you seem to be a quite good candidate
I think you have a chance at most of these schools and will most likely be accepted to at least one. Your GPA is low compared to what these colleges look for they like 3.9+ but a 3.8 won’t kill your chances. Your SAT will definitely help. I don’t think your SAT will do much. These colleges look mostly at academics. They also look at who you as a person are. You seem to be very very diverse which will definitely help your chances. You do however NEED to change your hook up. It’s not very interesting or stands out. You could do so much with your current EC’s volunteer work and work to make a better hook.
I agree with a previous posters that male ballet, especially in combination with your other ECs and ACT score, can certainly help distinguish you in the applicant pool. As always schools, like Yale will be a reach, but for you, not necessarily out of reach (and maybe a lot closer). Best of luck!
