Final Decisions; BACKGROUND, Class of 2018

toowonderful… Thank you for sharing your story! …Huge Congrats to your D and you!!!

Thanks guys- I just hope I can pay some of what I have gotten from all of you forward to next year’s group!

We are going to be giving a College Audition Seminar in May. My question to this group is would you mind if I your background stories you have placed here. Because these are anonymous I would love to have some printed in our handouts so parents who are starting the process can have the information. There is so much great information in these stories. We are already going to be telling the parents of the forum and the wonderful resource we have found here so I hope they will find them one way or another. If you don’t mind me using yours, would you private message me and let me know it is okay to use your post. We won’t even be posting the usernames in the material we are using. Please know WE WILL NOT be using any that do not give me permission. THANKS!!! You guys are an amazing resource!!!

Decision: Roosevelt CCPA

This was an amazing experience. Because of my work, S was a theatre brat and grew up doin’ shows. However even with our background in theatre we were not prepared for this. As everyone can attest, it’s a job in itself. What I learned is that even though we have a boy—that doesn’t mean there is no competition. I was concerned about the dance piece from the get go. It takes years to train a dancer and he wasn’t prepared. He took a break and played basketball for his high school and lost two critical years of dance training. While it’s tempting to wish we had encouraged him not to—I’m glad he did. He forged wonderful friendships with some of the other basketball players and considers one his very best friend. That’s worth a lot.

When I discovered CC there was a reoccurring theme that I noticed right away. I kept reading comments about how the kids would end up where they were supposed to be and it would all work out. I was dubious about that. The competition is crazy. But after going through the process I now believe it’s true. S fell in love with Roosevelt on the first day of Chicago Unifieds. The auditor made some very encouraging comments and we looked over the beautiful facilities. While I know S tried his best in his other auditions, he had already fallen in love. So happy day when he was accepted. That’s not to say the rejections were a picnic but not as tough as they would have been if he hadn’t landed his number one school. Phew. In conclusion—I truly believe that these kids do end up where they’re supposed to.

Welcome to the family @ikemom and S! It’s been an amazing, exciting first year for us at CCPA, and I hope your son has an equally wonderful experience.

Congratulations, lkemom.and S! As a mom of a young man, it may be “easier” being a guy in this crazy process, but it is by no means easy!!

Congrats Ikemom and S. RELIEF at last!!! As my daughter says “the struggle!”

Congrats on your decision, @Ikemom and S! We were secretly hoping he would join our D at the U of U. Great story, thanks for sharing!

My D’s best friend is currently a freshman MT at U of U and LOVES the program!

As @Jkellynh17 says, @ikemom, welcome to the CCPA family. Our kids have loved their first year there. It is a warm (not the weather, of course), wonderful, challenging place!

Summer Program - CMU Pre-college MT the summer after Junior year.

Final Decision: Otterbein, BFA Acting!!

Background: As I’ve mentioned here and there, son decided he would like to major in MT following great success at the first (and last) Thespian event he attended. Since I had already wrapped my head around the idea that he would major in Jazz Studies, drum set, I did not have much further to fall from the once held belief that son would someday be a scientist, lol. Son had been involved with theatre since he was in elementary school, participating in Children’s theatre and school productions, but has not had formal acting lessons. The only dance experience he had was tap lessons when he was four. He was the only boy and was not impressed! I still have the cute patent leather tap shoes to remind him of his missed opportunity  Son is a member of the school’s Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. He recently got a group of guys together to form an a cappella group. He has also written a one act play that was presented at a State competition.

This has been a wild and crazy year! CC was the foundation of my education of the MT audition process. Though son has a lovely voice and is a good high school actor, I needed to know that he would have some kind of chance at auditions, and that we weren’t on a wild goose chase. CMU pre-college, MTCA and his private voice teacher helped to assure me that he had talent, keeping in mind that what the audition results would be was impossible to know. Son attends a relatively small public school by CC standards. The one theatre teacher is also an English teacher. She and son’s friends have been his biggest supporters, and have been cheerleaders to him during this process.

That son had three acceptances is amazing. That two of the acceptances came from his two top schools was miraculous! Otterbein and Coastal Carolina are both programs that have good and kind people, in addition to top notch training. Son was thrilled to be accepted, but dismayed when he had to pick one over the other. In the end, he picked the school he felt fit him best. Like AssttotheMT’s D, son did not agonize over the idea of being a BFA Acting major instead of MT. He will have opportunity to take private voice lessons, will be taking dance classes, and will also have the opportunity to take classes for Acting majors that he may have missed as an MT.
I would also like to take this opportunity to make a shout out for the University of Southern Maine. It is a lovely program and could be a great fit for a student. Son wanted to attend out of state and we agreed that if he was accepted to an out of state school, and the financial piece worked, he could attend.

Thank you to everyone of you! This outcome would not have been possible without the generous sharing of information, the highs and lows of the audition process and everything in-between.

Congratulations on the decision entertainersmom and S! How wonderful that he got to pick from his top 2 schools!

Congrats on your talented son choosing from his two top choices. what a wonderful story!

Amazing how those “right” fits just keep popping up. Congrats!

Thanks! It is hard to believe everything will work out during a long stretch of rejections. To echo those who have gone before, hang in there!!

congrats @entertainersmom ! Your advice has been so good l this year, and I wish the best to you and your son!
