Final Decisions Background, Class of 2020

Congratulations, @Fotokat, on having a decision, and on winding up in such a great school! My son spent two days attending classes there and he felt they were terrific. Based on everything we’ve heard, I’m sure your daughter will love it there!

They assigned my D Leo Ash Evens as a monologue coach. She excited to get started!

Congrats @Fotokat family! Great choice! Welcome to the new family!

@Fotokat…that was quite a ride your D was on. So glad that is over and she has a great place to go and all this angst will become a distant memory!

As an aside, it would be nice to keep this thread to final decision stories and things related to that, rather than coaching options about which there are existing threads.

Congrats @Fotokat - Welcome to the Hartt family! If you or your D have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Go Hawks!

Loved the story @Fotokat !!

@Fotokat - rollercoaster ride is right! Congratulations!

Yay @Fotokat! Congratulations to you and your D!

@Fotokat Congratulations!!

What a journey @Fotokat! Congratulations to you and your D!

@Fotokat my D is going to Hartt too. They probably already know each other

They have been having a great time on social media getting to know one another! Mine is so ready to go! I hope the summer is really long but she hopes it will be really short. Haha!

Congratulations @Fotokat!

Wasn’t there a student who decided to not accept any BFA MT offers, after going through the process? To save my life, I can’t find the post: But if anyone remembers who it was, I would be grateful to re-read that. D is having some doubts, and I want her to know that it’s ok. And to keep her college list diverse

@owensfolks: You may be referring to my son, at post 134.

My daughter decline a BFA acting offer and is attending a BA program at Drew and is immensely happy. In the beginning she thought she wanted to study performance only with a concentration in acting but after visiting both schools she fell in love with Drew. She now has had experience as stage manager, prop master, is the TA and tutor for their theatre design course. and has been asked to direct their new seasons of plays. She also auditioned for the MainStage show of Hamlet as was cast for next season. She is experiencing it all and loving it. She knows that when the acting roles are scarce for her she can stage manage or do other things in the creative realm to make ends meet.

@owensfolks - every incoming class at D’s school (Northwestern) includes MANY students who go through the entire BFA audition process with great success, yet opt for the NU BA over all their BFA offers (from virtually every program you can name). Even many of the kids admitted ED had early BFA offers in hand. In my experience it is not uncommon for kids to vastly revise their thinking about what they want from college during the amost 10-month-long application/audition process.

We know a student who declined BFA MT offers to attend a school for a totally unrelated degree. Shocked the heck out of everyone but the right choice for this student.

YES! Thank you @daedalu and all. I want to make sure that she applies to schools that she can see herself at, even if there are NO BFA acceptances. And even if she wakes up in Nov/Dec (or February?) and decides to switch course.

Yes @owensfolks I have a rising senior too and we think she’s about 95% on the MT BFA or BA train but there’s always that 5%…leaving all those options open is key! I have also know kids who totally deviated senior year to another path.
