@lithpool Congratulations! MARCAS was big for my D as well and I highly recommend regional auditions for anyone headed into this process in the coming years.

Great to hear these stories. Here’s ours, abbreviated as my daughter wouldn’t want much posted. My D has been MT obsessed since elementary school and once we knew she could carry a tune we supported involvement in public school plays and amateur local theatre. We have been lucky that, even living in remote smaller town Canada, that she’s been blessed with wonderful vocal and drama teachers who have encouraged her. We parents hoped that it was a phase that would pass, and she would go on to invent the next Facebook and support us in early retirement. Alas, not to be. She researched summer theatre camps. We told her in middle school that she’d have to raise half the cost to attend a US camp. Three years later she called our bluff by emptying the piggybank with all of her savings and went on to love several wonderful experiences at camp that solidified the passion and exposed her to great teachers.
Fast forward. She applied to several US and Canadian schools for both MT and vocal performance. Thankfully she was pretty organized as her clueless parents had no idea what a crazy journey would entail. Passed all prescreens for Michigan, Pace, BoCo, Syracuse, Ithaca. Auditioned for those plus NYU, BW, CCM, and Royal Consv of Scotland. In Canada auditioned and accepted to U of Toronto (VP), Dalhousie (VP), and Sheridan College (MT).
We didn’t have a coach. We could however have used a psychiatrist at different points along the way.
Final outcome: in US, 2 yesses, 3 waitlists.
Final decision: she plans to accept to College Conservatory of Music Cincinnati (CCM) BFA MT this fall.
It has been a pleasure to hear of all of your journeys this year, and share in some of the stress and laughs together. Shoutout to @CanadianMTgirl for going above and beyond the call of duty in giving us some great info and insight along the way. Wishing the very best to all of your children as they follow their dreams.
My D has already spent half the college fund on Cincinnati Bearcat swag. I was doubtful that a Bearcat was even a real thing, it sounds like a made-up animal. But extensive research shows it to be a small rodent from east Asia. The relevance to southern Ohio is unclear, but we will have 4 years to figure it out.
