<p>It can not hurt to ask. But the way to ask needs to be done in a certain manner.</p>
<p>Perhaps stating the Jacobs is your first choice with information as to why, then stating that in order to attend you would need x dollars more per year via scholarship or work study could yield a good amount as the deadlines approach.</p>
<p>It can be very political. I have many friends with students heading off in the Fall that have received up to 10K extra (as of this date) from some major schools by approaching the request delicately.</p>
