I am not sure if this post was intended to cause a debate about racism or diversity but generally when I hear someone make a statement that is obviously meant to stir up zenophobia or racism, I check the facts first. The max a MIchigan State international student could get who is not from Canada or Mexico is 38K assuming their stats were in the top 5% of all students at the school. THe COA for an international student there is $62,000. So if they are the best and the brightest in the entire class (including US residents) they can get the cost down to instate tuition but still have their enormous travel costs. They are not eligible for federal financial aid.
That said, as a smart non racist girl who had never met a middle class black or Indian person before college, I would say that THE one most impactful thing I learned in college was that diversity exists and matters a lot. That I could get that exposure even if I was the least qualified student the school had ever admitted from one of the smartest people the school had ever admitted is considerably more value than giving a foreigner the equivalent of undiscounted in state tuition.
