Financing Your Education

Good evening, all! Thank you for the Easter well-wishings! The kids had a fabulous, candy-induced, jump-for-joy-athon for a few hours this morning- until I had to go and mom all over their fun, taking the baskets away before they plunged themselves head-first into early diabetes. Then there was less happiness in the land… ;)

I’ll definitely be calling tomorrow to find out about the housing thing, but yeah, that’s what I read last week…again, I may have just misunderstood. The housing app page said to read the two links before applying- one about the type of accommodations, and one…that was…um, something like “things you should know,” and THAT was where I found something saying that there was a limited amount of family housing and you could only apply to TRANSFER into it after having been at Columbia for a year. Hopefully I’m completely insane and that was just a nightmare I had…

Hmm. It occurs to me I should probably never hope for insanity…lol

To second Liz, thanks for the link! Before I even applied at Columbia I called to make sure I would have access to an on-site daycare- that was very important to me throughout this transfer application process, especially because last semester I literally got kicked out of my classes for poor attendance due to the fact that, for the first time since I began this juggling act, I was unable to obtain daycare for my non-school-aged son (thankfully we’ll be out of those woods soon!). I had straight A’s in my classes, guys! I was missing classes left and right because I simply couldn’t find anyone to take him, and there was a period there where I was selling all of my belongings just to pay for daycare- upwards of sixty dollars for TWO DAYS of childcare- and I STILL couldn’t pull it off. At eight weeks, halfway through the semester, I passed the maximum allowance of four absences (per class) and was kicked out, even though I had taught myself the material every time I missed class and was maintaining my 4.0 GPA. So, access to on-site daycare was the first thing I looked for in a transfer school, after having met my criteria regarding research access, educational goals, and future plans.

So I’ll be sure to ask them about that tomorrow as well, and I’ll share the results asap.

As for the NYC preschool circus, I saw a documentary about it. Those people are certifiable. Bat**** insane. LOL it’s preschool people, calm dooooown. Did you guys see the CC thread about some woman suing her kid’s preschool because something about it made her think they had ruined her toddler’s chances at getting into an Ivy League school 15 years from now???

People are CRAZY. ;)
