Today is my daughter’s 20th birthday–her second away from us. She loves these petit fours that I order from California (Divine Delights), so I sent them last year and this year. She also got some other gifts. I am now waiting to hear how wonderful everything was! lol

Happy bday to your dau, MD mom. She doesn’t happen to be in TX, does she?

Thanks, jym. She is in Pittsburgh.

AHH. I know someone in MD whose dau’s b’day is today as well, but the dau is 21, not 20, and is in Tx!

^^That would be too funny.

My birthday always falls during orientation week at my school- during my first year it was the 2nd day of orientation, and in following years (I’m now an RA) it has been move in day, late in the orientation week, and once again on move-in day this year. My mom has always sent me $100 with the express directive to use it to take myself and whomever I want out to dinner- first year it was great because I got a bunch of my just-made friends to go out to pizza, and in following years have used it for me and some other RA friends, and this year for a very nice dinner for myself + BF.
Since sending a cake can be difficult, you might want to consider this approach- this way friends are involved, food is eaten, and the birthday is definitely celebrated :)

Son’s birthday was last week. I had a selection of cookies and brownies (complete with 2 pints of milk) delivered. There is a bakery in his city called ‘Insomnia Cookies’ - they have locations near a bunch of colleges - Penn State, Michigan, Cornell… I did it all online. Son loved it.

Drove up to take S out to dinner on his b’day and provided cupcakes for dorm.

Will do something similar this year for 21, though not on THE DAY. Don’t want to cramp his style.

We skipped the hooplah for 19 and 20 but sent cookies.

S is very low key. Didn’t want us to do more, or even that, but he graciously let us.
