First Generation, Low Income Minority, Transferred to GW: ASK ME ANYTHING!

@aela00 My hope for my research is to have it published in a journal. When I began this research endeavor in the beginning of the Fall semester I was extremely optimistic, hoping that I can write and publish it by the end of the year. Little did I know that I soon would be mistaken since I didn’t know the amount of work research takes. Currently I am still recording data on culture shocks, therefore the paper is not finalized. Unfortunately, I can’t share my drafts yet because they aren’t finalized.

@EconPop Thank you for the encouragement. But the doubt in my accomplishments isn’t from others prejudice. While I take pride and ensure to gloat about an accomplishment such as this, the doubt I have stems from myself questioning how I have achieved these accolades. My GW acceptance essentially doesn’t feel real. After wanting to attend the school I can’t fathom how I am finally achieving my goals. Of course this acceptance boosted my already high ego but personally it doesn’t feel like a reality. I strongly believe that you have to be your own “hype man” because if you don’t boost yourself up then no one else will. Regardless of how I got the acceptance I know that once I am on campus I will be sure to take full advantage of the city and the institution.

As any college student can attest to, those forged in adversity will remain humbled and supercede their counterparts.

Help Please! Help Please!

Hey long story short, I am pursuing a degree Nursing,
I have around one year left, I have all the core NUR classes yet
to take, three more bios and one more math, I signed up for summer
classes, thinking online wouldn’t be that much different then person-to-person,
I was so wrong, the online learning due to covid 19 wasn’t for me, AT ALL,
I withdrew from my classes this summer, (bio and mth) Question is I know this
won’t affect my gpa which is around 3.3 but I’m worried that 2 W’s won’t look
that good, and as well as my financial aid for my upcoming semesters, I was
told by my advisor it wouldn’t affect my financial aid status but I will owe
the college some money, I guess this goes without saying but, how big of a
deal is 2 W’s in one semester? NOTE: These are my first ever withdrawals and
I’ve been there for almost a year. and how
much will I own the college? Thanks Thanks

@MichaelGD3 Since financial aid is dependent on your enrollment status that is the first thing you need to consider. How many credits did you complete for the semester? To be a full time student you need more than 12, anything less than 12 credits you are part time which will decrease or potentially void an award you may have received in your financial aid package. I can’t tell you how much you would owe but that is something you need to find out from your financial aid/academic advisor.

Regarding the 2 W’s I really don’t know. Since I am a rising sophomore I haven’t been in a scenario(yet) where I have to withdraw from a course. However, since these are your first two W’s I don’t think it would be that detrimental as long as you don’t withdraw anymore. If anything the W’s really shouldn’t be your main focus if you are not applying to a master/grad program. Also a W on your transcript is better than a D+. Only take the W if you are going to fail the course making you ineligible to receive the credit for that semester. Something to consider is did your school give the option for Pass/Fail? If you were going to pass the class with a C- then opt in for the pass/fail option. Remember that graduate/master programs will have to consider applicants winter/spring 2020 semester since everyone was affected by COVID-19.
