First Trip to Europe (Copenhagen, Denmark) - Any (and all) advice welcome.

If you can get a place with an oven, it might be a nice opportunity to have a little family Thanksgiving dinner. Whether or not you are there during the holiday, I know from experience that all expats really miss a taste of home during that month. Maybe take a few seasonings and ingredients for your D’s favorite dishes. You can go to a butcher and order a turkey easy peasy. Nothing grand and glorious, but it would be nice. I plan on dragging stuffing mix, seasoning, pecans and canned pumpkin over on the plane for D’s EU based Thanksgiving later in Nov.

Just got back from a trip to Denmark and Sweden. We spent two nights in Helsingor , north of Copenhagen before driving up to visit my husband’s family in Sweden for a few days. We have been to Copenhagen several times. We drove back for our last night before flying home . I would have to say that this is our favorite city to visit . I would recommend bringing clothing for wet ( cold ) weather as it tends to rain a lot there. Nyhaven is a great area of the city to visit and stay. It is lovely. We stayed at a hotel in a part of the city I wasn’t very familiar with and it was really overpriced.
If you are planning a day trip to Sweden, I strongly recommend you stay away from Malmo as a destination. It is the closest city and there is a bridge connecting the two countries , but it has become a dangerous place. You can take a train to Karlskrona ( where my husband grew up ) It is a former navy town and has some pretty spots / museums / hotels.
You should indulge in their baked goods because they are awesome

As a side note, we ate at a little place the other night that had some really good food ( Scandinavian food isn’t my favorite cuisine ) The food was a bit more creative than what we typically have experienced there, but what stuck out in my mind was, we had what I have to say was the BEST beer I have ever tasted , which was not Danish, but Austrian…not sure if you are beer drinkers, but it was fantastic
the place was Cafe Sari and the beer was called Edelweiss Weissbier Hefetrüb.

Our family lives in Europe and have been to the above mentioned places. Copenhagen is a beautiful city and the people are so, so friendly but bring extra money. Scandinavia is very expensive compared to other parts in Europe. Please also contact your credit card to let them know you are traveling there. Even though we live here, our US credit card needs to be reminded when we travel or it sometimes is frozen at hotels.

To get this back on track and on Denmark…

I have taken the advice to book via air no and found a beautiful apartment at a reasonable price.

Thank you, @musicamusica and @FlyMeToTheMoon for the suggestion!

Hijacking threads with personal issues is rude and against the Terms of Service. In this case the question about Russia was completely off topic and of no interest to the OP, or at least not what was asked. And rather than just being a post or two it became half the thread. In the future, start a new thread with questions that are not related to the current thread or otherwise risk distracting from getting the actual topic discussed.

Just wanted to report back…we had our trip to Denmark…and it was perfect!

Thanks again, for the suggestion regarding AirBnb—the apartment we found was perfect! A lovely place to relax after busy days of touring.

Regarding packing—we actually could have done it—traveled with only carry-on. However, in the end we took a suitcase because we were bringing all sorts of extra stuff for my daughter. Some treats she was missing and some clothes she had left behind. We also brought home some stuff for her.

The sites – We did get many of the suggested sites in, but boy were my feet tired at the end of each day!

Jetlag - no problem at all! Yay!

Weather - Turned out great. A little rain, but never enough to really stop us. Definitely, cold but bearable even for this So Cal girl. And we even had some blue skies! (Guess we brought a little So Cal weather with us) Funny thing was at one point my husband checked the weather back home and compared it to Copenhagen — it was colder at home! (Of course it was only by a few degrees and at home it was early morning while in Copenhagen it was daytime…but still…)

Thanks again to everyone for your advice — especially about AirBnb—it made such a difference in our experience and the time we got to spend with our daughter.
