Fleas

The cat has been bathed without incident :-bd

^ Now that is a small miracle. The heavens are on your side today!

I fill the tub with warm water before I start, wear those cotton, nubby garden gloves for protection and because she likes the rough texture massage. Then she kind of floats like a swimming tiger. She’s not crazy about it but tolerates it and even puts her head under the faucet. I used the more powerful shampoo and soaked her for quite awhile. She is also a tiny, mild mannered little tortoise shell which likely makes all the difference.

It also helps that she is the only cat I’ve ever met who is incapable of holding a grudge.

For flea control on our Chihuahua we rub about a teaspoon of Ortho Max Tree and Shrub liquid insecticide on her bare chest monthly. The active ingredient, imidacloprid, is 1.47% concentration in the Ortho…imidaclorprid concentration in Advantage flea medicine is 9.1%…so we apply more of the Ortho liquid. Anyone using the Ortho on their dog just make sure not to get the bottles with fertilizer already mixed in! Quart jug of Ortho that lasts long time costs about $20…4 thimble size applications of Advantage costs about $50.

We used to use Frontline with great success. I don’t see the logic in being opposed to medicine when your cat and you are being tormented by fleas. Your cat for sure will be much happier and healthier.

My sister said she put a plastic wash tub (better grip for kitty) in the bathtub for the cat to sit in. She said her cat didn’t mind a bath as long as it’s feet weren’t sitting in much water.

Yep, gouf . . . that’s the conclusion that I came to. It just isn’t my first instinct. Can’t I just get ladybugs or something to sprinkle on the cat like I do with the roses/aphids? :P

Is there some kind of Girl Scout badge that can be earned by both “pilling” and bathing a cat in under 15 minutes (combined score)? If there is I just earned it!

Have you seen Pill Pockets? Just tuck the pill inside. My cats love them … though one is careful to spit the pill out. Still, my other cats just swallow the pill happily along with bits of pill pocket, so I consider the pockets a success. Salmon is the preferred flavor here. I pick them up at PetSmart but here’s the Amazon link:

I just did it the old fashioned way. This is the cat who is afraid of tuna and cat treats, so I just cut to the chase.
