Flight Cancellation Logistics for dummies

The last weather forecast is calling for “snow showers” for Thursday. I’d say you just need to hold tight for now…you won’t really “KNOW” until sometime Tuesday or Wednesday. Any chance you could arrange for someone to plow this weekend just in case? It does NOT look like there will be snow issues at all at LGA. That being the case, your flight will not be canceled and if you decide not to go, it will be your loss. Contracting with a plow person just for these four days might be good “insurance”.

I have never flown on Spirit, but I do know that this is not true of all airlines. On Dec 26th, the 2nd leg of our flights from White Plains to Detroit (on USAir) was canceled due to pending snow and we rebooked for two days later, flying out of Hartford. One of those flights ended up being canceled as well, and since the next opportunity to rebook left us with a 1 day “vacation”, I had absolutely no problem canceling the entire round trip for three of us. A full refund was credited to our credit card within 4 weeks.

Of course they neglected to refund our baggage fees, so I will be on the phone on Monday to clear up that last detail.

And USAir also posted information on their web site in advance of that storm, allowing customers to rebook any flight in the effected areas when there is an official weather advisory. Perhaps Spirit will extend the offer posted above as we get closer to the projected Thursday storm.

I would call now and see if you can change. The airlines are hammered with people trying to reschedule from flights already canceled; it’s quite possible they’ll be thrilled to have your seat.
