You know what I think when I see that Overstock lamp? Bugs. All the bugs that are going to die in that upturned, open-top glass and that are going to be mighty difficult to empty out on a regular basis.

Consolation – I’m with you, not in love with either kitchen. The marble island in the first one had marble that looked ridiculously thick to me. I keep imagining my floor caving in from the weight of a slab that thick.

I think the Overstock light fixture is pretty, but am glad Arabrab mentioned the bug problem. We have several shallow bowl shape semi-flush mount fixtures that are open on top, and dh has to remove dead scorpions from them about twice a year (which is far too often for my comfort.) I tend to forget about that and get caught up in what looks pretty.

Glad you were there to deal with the gas co. guy, and hope that means you’re feeling better.

The large Capiz Shell chandelier is beautiful and just the right size for the dining room.

When I select the lighter antique gold - not only is the price much higher, but it is ‘not available’ until 02/15/15!!

Maybe the greyish dark color would look OK in the dining room.

I am off to the City tomorrow morning to pick up some plans. Out of the clear blue sky I started getting snail mail on Friday, dated from Monday 11/3, that said some plans/reviews are ready to be picked up. Two of the sections mentioned above that did not even have Assignments or Due Dates on the status report were already dropped at the Plan Pickup Desk by the time she generated the Status Report - but nothing on the status report about that. None of this is making any sense at all, so I am just going to park my butt there at 7am and try to get some answers. Have no idea how fully employed people deal with this, they would be missing a lot of work!!

CB: When I looked at the darker color of the chandelier, I wondered if it looked more silver than grayish and oiled bronze-ish. Hard to tell from the photo.

cb, good luck getting your plans today. I hope the snail mail notices didn’t lie – I know how these things can get mixed up. Eager to hear what happens.

@PhotoOp: Yep! There are currently three dead scorpions in the sunroom and one larger one in the basement game room. The basement garage has at least a dozen since dh didn’t get around to cleaning it out over the weekend. Most are about 2" - 2.5" long, but a few have been bigger. I’ll deal with snakes, but for some reason these little scorpions freak me out. I need to refresh our perimeter barrier of boric acid powder + diatomaceous earth.

Silpat - that’s scary. I wonder where you live. I have plenty of lizards and even a few snakes, but they stay OUTSIDE. I’m getting motivated by the lighting links as well.
