And, here’s the most interesting part. Remember the FAA special requirements because the plane is going to hit the house??? This house is right under the flight path. Definitely in the corridor because the San Diego Airport Authority performed the Quiet Home Program renovations for sound proofing.
Not once did anyone mention the whole FAA certification, sending plans to be ‘reviewed’ by FAA in Texas, filling out the FAA Self Certification form, requiring a structural engineer to do a site visit and ‘sign’ the plans for FAA??? What the hey? Dodged a bullet on that one.
Can’t they put a hundred pounds or so on a tarp and then drag that down the driveway? Going downhill should be pretty easy, and it would be a heck of a lot quicker than one shovel at a time.
Or a PVC pipe - say a 4 inches diameter one. Shovel into pipe - perhaps using a funnel or a bucket with a hole cut in it. let it slide down the hill. Put the far end on a sawhorse, put either a wheel barrow or a bucket to catch the gravel.
Oh boy, neighbor with terracing is out meticulously wiping down all patio furniture down the terraces. Probably mad because we have been raising a ton of dust moving all this gravel around.
Giant ton of dirt was delivered at the top of the driveway and then a bobcat pushed it down to bottom of driveway. Driveway has about a 6 inch layer of dirt and it is impossible to get down to the garage at this point. I think they will be done on Monday
Lots of progress this week. All painting done upstairs except the entry, living room and master bedroom walls because I haven’t selected my color yet. I have paint samples up everywhere at this point. Leaning towards a very pale grey
All measurements for staircase complete and we have laid down base plates for new wall area and closets upstairs. Have not opened the hole yet. Rented a concrete cutter and have cut out 18" deep for the stem wall trench under the outer wall of the staircase. We hit an old concrete patio and red brick area that was from the original house before the garage was built. Also trenched out the area needed for the bathroom plumbing.
Then we realized that the black sewer line from master bathroom and the copper water lines are all running right under the beginning part of the staircase and have to be rerouted. Wasted a day re routing just the copper lines. Sewer line has to wait a bit until we design the plumbing needed for the sewage sump pump thing
Retaining wall will be complete on Monday. That was a lot of work and about $5,000!!
I like built-in shelving! So much better than schlepping a pile of Dania boxes home and then watching Mr. B attach industrial- grade hardware to the walls because the shelves need to withstand a magnitude 10 earthquake. 8-| Can’t imagine how many holes I will have to patch up if we decide to sell the house!
The shower and vanity look AMAZING! Let me know when you want to come to Honolulu and wave your magic wand over our bathrooms. They really could use some updating like your lovely job!
