Today we are finishing up installing vanity and linen closet into bathroom. I haven’t found a vanity top/sink yet because I am worried about coloring. Ill load a pic and maybe you all will have suggestions. Quartz top is not right because of traditional style and granite top will be too ‘busy’ against floor tile. I may opt for a plain white top on the greyish brown vanity.
I was short 16 floor tiles and I had to wait for them special order. They got installed yesterday in the linen closet area but now Home Depot is out of my grout color. Dang it!
I don’t have to cut agave plant (believe me that thing is huge and impossible to dig out plus its holding slope erosion really well). I just have to cut flowering stem when its done flowering and seeding.
Regarding giant palms…it took 5 guys hours to get those things out of a big truck and into the holes. After they had fully set the first one I kept analyzing it and decided it was too high. I made them dig it up and plant trunk 12" lower into ground. Landscaper insisted that palm trunks can get planted into ground. I never thought I would get palms that were ‘too high’. My other concern is that I didn’t want them to be so high that there was any chance they would block view from 2nd story. That would be an expensive disaster! I think that height is just right that they might actually ‘soften’ the roof view from upstairs.
I was afraid of that. That is going to be a freaking disaster to try and dig out on the steep slope!!
I forgot to mention that we passed both our final inspections yesterday for the window permit and the electrical permit. Electrical wad a big hurdle because it was for desiring entire existing house and new panel. To pass that one I had to get all the smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and occupancy sensors in place, including the basement area. It’s difficult because everything is half done waiting for next stage of construction and we can’t paint ceilings or anything yet. So we are going to have to take down smokies or paint around them.
The good news right now is that the City has implemented a permit tracking system and I can watch as the plans go through review. Plans are already in detailed structural review and I can see the ‘notes’. They have calculated the ‘value’ of remodel and addition as $222,000. Yikes! That’s a lot of additional property taxes:) their values tend to be on low end. There are 4 other reviews that have been ‘assigned’ which is great progress.
Also, they have project at 3,174 sq ft. That probably includes the deck areas upstairs.
After a lot of networking and begging I have found two experienced framers to work on the project. Unfortunately I had to agree to start them next week because they are coming off a big job and might take another job if I hold off taking them. So, I have no choice but to start building stuff now. We are going to focus on building all the structural in the living and dining room areas because, no matter what happens, those walls are coming out for the view! !Even if I run out of money and don’t go up with 2nd story
I loaded some more photos to the Flickr group. Took some photos of the giant agave and the new medium-size trees planted by front gate.
Also, I am in a quandry about what color vanity top to put on the brownish grey vanity in the hall bathroom. May have to go with plain white so it doesn’t fight with everything
The key issue with the vanity top is that I don’t think it can have any ‘grain’ because of the busy tile floor. So, I need to find a solid color. Going to look for a solid pale grey. Most likely it will have to be quartz solid color.
