Gulp… today was a $13,500 pay day!!! OMG, I have no idea how much longer this is going to go on (yes, I do but it feels like an eternity). Had to pay one framing crew for 2 weeks of work because I couldn’t pay them last week, had to pay another framing crew, had to pay my own crew, had to pay electrician, had to pay the drywallers a big chunk of their bid. Oh lordy
We are targeting about September 7 for our big bang inspection of the entire addition. Roof trusses should be here on the 8th and it will take one day to get those onto the roof. However we are trying to analyze how we are going to get 28ft long roof trusses up on top of the 3rd floor.
From that point on it’s all drywall, stucco, paint, roof tiles, bathroom tiling, flooring and the fun stuff!! Ohh, and pull out the instructions and try to figure out how to install the dumbwaiter
The drywallers are doing a gorgeous job and are very fast and efficient. I’m really glad I hired them.
Roof trusses? A big crane? Our builder needed a crane to do ours!
My contractor friend said we were going to have to hire a crane, but it will only take one hour to get them lifted up. When I told the framing crew they just scoffed at the idea and said they will create an assembly line and get them lifted up themselves. They’ll probably change their minds when they see how big these things are going to be. However, they did get a 26ft long extremely heavy beam lifted up through the house
You will need to take lots of pictures!!
How much does a roof truss weigh - 120 pounds or so? That’s not that heavy… I agree with your framers, it doesn’t seem like it should be that hard to muscle them up.
Back to the bathroom - no door on toilet alcove, if we couldn’t figure out how to add one, we would walk away. We made that mistake once.
As an alternative, in one house we bought, the toilet room had a split door that hinged each way. Like an old saloon door but floor to top of doorframe. It wasn’t ideal privacy but we didn’t realize that as buyers.
I didn’t realize so many people won’t poop unless certain conditions are met!
Yep, lots of us just need privacy. At this price point, it’s non negotionable.
I see no reason to worry CB.
In my house, if the bathroom door is closed, it means keep out!
Our MB has no “privacy walls”- just an open plan with a locking pocket door.
Check and see what other homes in your price range in SD offer as far as separate water closets.
You will have 3 other bathrooms in the house for someone to take a d***.
Good point about checking other listings. I don’t think private toilet rooms are common in the neighborhood because homes are all very different. Most do not have huge palatial master baths with a lot of square footage
Well at least there is some privacy obtained by closing the bathroom door.
A bathroom designed to be used by 2 people simultaneously should not be set up in a way that one person can hog it at any giving time.
I prefer to be in the bathroom ALONE.
I’m totally with you on the cooktop and the wood floor, but I love the green.
I founf the pictures of that house to be unusually distorted. Either that, of the ceilings are really low.
@Consolation
If you like green…I guess it’s OK. I don’t. And really for that amount of money, I would prefer to make my own color choices on a more neutral palate. I mean…it would be easy to swap out the green lights, and paint. But the other green things are permanent and not easy to remove.
Plus, the owner chose to use a color that is not neutral. He could have staged it with green things.
1132 Savoy
For it being a renovation with staging, there are some odd pieces of furniture and awkwardly staged rooms.
I can’t tell if the exterior is gray or green.
I am NOT a fan of all the interior green touches, either.
Re: Savoy…I agree. It almost looks like someone is living in the house…esoecially the bedroom staging.
@coralbrook, have you thought about swinging, full length “saloon” style doors for the toilet room? We have those in our toilet in the master because I hate being squeezed by a door. It has maintained the privacy of the privy. They don’t take up as much room as bifold.
I know you planned for an elongated toilet in that spot…but would changing to a regular one make a closing door possible?
Regarding toilet nook - if I have to buy a new door, I think the best idea is to put in an outswing door so that I can leave the enclosure the current size. I just don’t want to have to build out the nook any further into master bathroom. An outswing door has to be special order so it will take about 4 weeks to get one that matches all of the other new doors.
I loaded some more photos, but they are not that interesting.
Today my carpenter is trying to finish the plumbing and my other guy is trying to finish the mud and texture in the living room. The drywallers are finishing up with final sanding of garage and kitchen/hallway area. Painters are coming on Monday and I need to get out and buy a ton of primer to keep moving. By the end of the day Monday we should have entire garage area primed (and probably will not paint much further in garage area) and kitchen/hallway primed and prepped. Then I will be under the gun to select the wall color for the main areas. I’m pretty sure I’m going with white to keep with the style of the house. Crisp white walls and dark window/door trim.
Bathrooms and bedrooms might get some paint that is a little more interesting
