Flip This House #5

Some of the black and white I liked, but that patio with the patterned B&W floor and patterned screening fence gives me a headache. Stuff around the pool is too much also. And with both of those things it isn’t just a matter of changing or removing wallpaper, which is a big turnoff to me. Not at all restful. And I think that B&W blown up bridal photo is pretty cheesy. Lots of interesting design, though. I like the kitchen.

I loved the kitchen, laundry room and walk in closet. I HATED all of the black and white stripes…all of them.

Worse than green

I love the walk in closet. It’s obvious they sacrificed a bedroom to make the closet. I’m afraid the walk in closet in this project will be a dissapointment but I just couldn’t carve out a bigger closet

Those bright yellow cushions on the patio chairs - they finally went for a pop of color?

The red print dining room stools look hideous with the rest of the kitchen area.

I didn’t care for the matching brass chandeliers over the dining room table and the master bathtub.

I, too, dislike the chandeliers. But I love that bathroom otherwise. The tub is fabulous. I could sink into it with a glass of wine an a movie on that TV. Love the closet. What was the purpose of that outdoor area with the color wisps on the wall?

Looking for a house with a really really REALLY good view? But it has little privacy; I’ve walked by it many times and photographed the garden and gazebo from the sidewalk. http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-160048008-274_Coast_Blvd_La_Jolla_CA_92037

I think it’s been used as a VRBO rental. Sorry, cb, not a comp!

Geez…$13 million.

@Marilyn - Wow, that’s quite a house. And California Craftsman is one of my favorite styles. The decor doesn’t wow me and I’d probably redo the kitchen but those views…and like Coralbrook said, $13.8 million…Hmm, wonder what Powerball is up to?

Serious question: On the East Coast, being soooooooo close to the ocean would be problematic. Tides, storms, hurricanes. Not in SoCal??

The color wisps - assumed that was a practice wall for a budding graffiti artist who was tired of staring at black and white geometric shapes all day.

Ocean front in La Jolla would probably get some salty windstorms and rain coming straight in. But the worst part is the salt air that close to the ocean. It takes a ton of maintenance to keep everything from corroding away.

When I lived right on the beach, everything corroded, including the zippers on my clothes, the insides of my fax machine and printers, food cans, the tiny metal bits on my dogs collar – everything! Now I live 50 yards from the beach and I don’t have the same problems (but I miss my old house so much!)

Flood insurance (if you can get any) would be VERY expensive when you are literally right in the beach like that. We live a few hundred feet from the ocean and have lots of corrosion too. Fortunately since we are further inland, our flood insurance isn’t that expensive.

I love how it’s $3,474 per square foot. My goodness.

I have a friend who lives across the street from the b&w house. She said the owners bought it four years ago and slowly redid it. The “graffiti” wall is the husband’s fun space, or something to that effect.

That’s a lot of weekend warrior projects in that house

That beach house is incredible, but on the Atlantic coast A) you’d never get permission to build it, and B) it would be inundated regularly by big storms.

Also, 3,900+ square feet and no dining room, not even a nicely set off area? Very small kitchen, with a low end microwave over the cooktop? I do like the inset cabinets that, thank doG, do NOT have those “modern” metal pulls that it seems every kitchen has. The pale wooden ceilings are perfect for an ocean cottage. The exterior is very charming.

Is photo #13 the dining area?
