It’s the size that matters. I don’t care what color it is. It would be very hard to try to repair with a different size. Since it was built 1937 it is going to take some detective work to find some block or brick of same size. I’ll post a photo
You might have some luck with a reclaimed materials yard in your area. Something like this?

We just passed our next set of inspections which were exterior stucco and water proofing, shower leak and waterproof test and final insulation pass. Of course I walk in this morning and realize we forgot to insulate the entire staircase. Oops…mad dash to finish insulation before inspector arrives
I have one more set of small inspections before the big final inspection. He needs to check drywall screws and final electric meter. Then we finish everything up for final where he looks for staircase hand rails, smoke detectors and HVAC test
Do you have a color scheme in mind for staging? I keep picturing orange and lime green pops of color (pillows) to compliment the rich brown tones.
Haha…you sound like my agent:) she keeps coming over wanting to talk about where to put couches and beds. I tell her I am so far away from worrying about that, my head is exploding:)
I forgot to mention that inspector walked through kitchen and noticed the high quality cabinets. “You don’t scrimp on the finishes, these are very nice”. Made my day!
Sample of one here. I can’t stand orange or green. At all. To me, those two colors scream 1970’s when avocado and orange were “in”.
When I look at the space, I see cooler colors to compliment the warmth of the wood that is there. Maybe seafoam green or an aqua with accents. Maybe even some pale yellow.
I hate orange.
B-)
Make it a sample of three. B-)
When I think of orange and brown together, I think of kitchens with dark brown cabinets with orange formica countertops.
In fact - do a google image search of “brady kitchen” - dark brown uppers, avocado green lowers and fridge, and orange countertops and backsplash. Throw in the round orange table with the avocado chairs - so chic. ![]()
Can we link to google? https://www.google.com/search?q=brady+kitchen&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X
If the house was grey tones and cool tone wall colors (contemporary) I don’t mind a pop of orange. But because of all the dark wood, dark trim and warm wood floor tones we will pop with cool tones such as turquoise or I may go with white and navy blue staging
I’ll just be lucky to even find a staging company that has the right furniture for this style of house. They all have contemporary or beach house furniture
We have pops of turquoise all over our house! I’m another of the anti-orange contingent.
Any chance of leather armchairs or sofa?
ETA: @Madison85 , I feel like we all jumped all over your suggestion. I’m sorry! :x
brown leather? If so, I would vote no. I am a sample of one that thinks this would be too much brown.
I can sort of picture mission oak style furniture in this house.
I don’t mind a pop of orange, its very popular right now. It looks good against grey tones. Will not look good against the browns in this house.
I loaded some photos of the kitchen cabinets and brick wall. There are some cabinets we are not going to install until the floors get finished so we are done for now.
We found a simple solution for the brick wall repair. I found some left over concrete blocks in back yard and bingo!! Same exact width and 1 block is exactly two bricks high. So we will rebuild wall with concrete block and then slap a bunch of stucco over it all to match front entry wall
I bet nobody will ever notice the color issue on the trimmed-down crown moulding. If there’s a minor color/sheen difference it will look like a function of different planes/light angles due to the moulding’s complex profile.
Yes, probably will not be noticeable if I get close with the color. But I really did not need this search and hunt mission. And then we have to do a perfect cut and delicate painting. Uggghhh
Until looking at your new photos, I didn’t understand why the crown could not overlap the front of the cabinets. Now I get it! A mini foam roller would be a good tool for this paint job. I’m so sorry that, with the crazy door destruction and everything else you’re dealing with, you have to spend time and effort on this annoying task. Hang in there!
Moving on to the photos…I am crazy about that curved brick wall. It will look fabulous when stuccoed, tying the landscape and the house together. Kitchen’s looking great. I especially love the shot looking from kitchen into the living room, showing all the light and how someone cooking in the kitchen can be part of what’s happening in the living room, and vice versa.
It is so exciting seeing your vision become reality!
Deleted dumb idea.
Today we are starting to sand the floors and I have to pick stain color for the oak floors. Boy, we spent 2 hours x 3 of us to get everything moved out of the rooms and off the floors!!
For stain color we are going to seal the top floor walnut with a satin and matte clear finish. After I decide on the walnut we will sand and stain up some of the oak with different stains to try to compliment the living room ceiling and merge into the walnut that will be on the staircase to top floor.
The living room pegs appear to be walnut so that will bring some cohesion
