I looked at San Diego Craigslist and there’s one fixture similar in shape to the “Moroccan” fixture you’re not sure works. There’s also this guy, with 15 (?) huge chandeliers, one of which it two-tiered similar to one in a photo you posted above, cb. The ad says it’s 48 inches tall. (several fixtures in same ad; scroll through photos). $200.

zipyourlips… what a find!!! I would have never thought to look on Craigslist for large chandeliers. Some of those might be perfect and I love that they are really large. I’m going to text the guy and go over there Saturday to look at them.
Shoot. I saw the ad a couple days ago and thought they were too wide given your concern about the shape of the room, so I didn’t post it until noticing your posts from today. Asking $200 each, and the ad has been running for a while. They are all statement pieces (big!). Good luck, cb. Any trip to La Jolla can’t be all bad!
Nice that you’re in the area and can go and look at them before you purchase. Hope there are some remaining and that the seller responds quickly so you can “jump” on it before they’re all snatched up. Agree that it’s a good idea not to spend too much, as the buyer may well replace it, but you still want it to look nice and help set the mood for your home.
I really think that this one would be pretty good:
Like zipyourlips, I thought you had eliminated wide circles? The tall wrought iron one looks like a possibility!
TBH, I didn’t think any of the rectangular ones would work, too much bling, but I wasn’t able to find any in that shape that had the wrought iron or Spanish look.
This site has incredible stuff. But the prices!!!
I love that the CL seller has caution tape all around his chandeliers!
The one that I like is the last one in the Craigslist ad… the tall one
And the prices are hard to beat!
You can get a whole bundle for the $$ you got for the one you sold.

This one I am not familiar with, but it has a bunch:

The Craigslists chandeliers come from a former seaside resort that is now a high end buy-in CCRC.
Yes, the Craigslist ones are out of the lobby and dining area of a Senior Citizen expensive Buy In place. Unfortunately, the guy seems to work only Monday through Friday so I cannot go look at them today.
Dang, I absolutely love the one in the houzz link but lamp has been discontinued (was linked to Ballard website, link no longer working)

I thought this one was cool…was looking for things similar to the one you liked, cb. But, oh, the price!

All of these lighting choices are lovely… but I am going to hold out for that local Craigs List one that I will go look at on Monday (the tall skinny one). It is 48" tall which I think will make a huge statement in the room. And we all know that $ 200 asking on Craigslist probably equals $150 cash in hand when I get there
Revised Plans
I’ve loaded the latest set of revised plans. Basic changes are:
Garage stairs enclosed and garage widened to 26’
Garage stairs arriving at slightly different location on main floor. This creates kind of a wide open landing area that will have a lot of cabinetry. With so much cabinetry in that landing area I may be able to give up the walk in pantry and try to use that to fix the stairs going up to 2nd floor
Stairs to 2nd floor are now jutting out towards back of house, towards driveway. We did this to try to get rid of the weird ‘jut out’ in front of house from 1st plan. Unfortunately, this is causing the back/middle bedroom to lose the exterior door and large window. The staircase is basically going through the current exterior deck location. First, I think this will make the bedroom too large because it can only have a 32" wide window in the room. But my biggest problem is that the gas meter is currently located under that deck (I have no idea who allowed that with the 1990 deck permits) in corner. The last thing I want to do is go through a huge exercise trying to get SDGE to move the gas meter. Been there, done that… it’s an ordeal
So, we are going to have to rework those dang stairs again. I’m thinking of adding a bump out at front of new 2nd story that mimics the beautiful kitchen bump out design. Put that in front area of 2nd story where stair case is coming up. Possibly turning stairs and going through the current kitchen pantry area. Giving up pantry (possible some under stair storage available) and using the ‘landing area’ coming from garage stairs as a lot of storage cabinetry for a ‘pantry’.
Master bedroom got wider upstairs and added a small 8’ wide by 5’ deep corner balcony. I like how it breaks up the giant box effect in the back of the house. And, that back corner will be the money shot for views.
Meanwhile, several more properties have flown off the shelf in the $1.2 million range. This sets current market of $625/square foot for view properties. Things are looking good… as long as the market doesn’t tank in the next 6 months and all of the $1mil plus buyers don’t buy everything and there are no more $1mil buyers left
!!!
I like your ideas for a kitchen-like bump out to solve the problem of the middle back bedroom. Things sure are complicated when you add a second story! It’s all coming together nicely.
I also like the bump out because it adds a flavor of the original architecture to the 2nd story
The stairs could even follow the angle of the bump out or you could put in a window seat.
