Flip This House Grandma House

Agree, there is no redeeming pink tile.

The basement bathroom in my cape house has pink bubble gum-colored tile and fixtures. It’s horrid. It is so far down the list of things to fix though, it will probably be years before it gets removed.

Ah, we have the same “pink tile,” only in blue, brown and green (one color to each bathroom). The brown is passable. The rest (along with the 1966 vintage 6 gallon blue toilet needs to GO!

The owner’s offering to pay for the stolen tools was classy. I like this husband.

Plumbing Tool Box mystery solved

On Friday we left before the painting team. Long instructions to them on putting their tools into garage and locking up garage.

They worked on Saturday, our team did not.

Upon arrival on Monday the garage door into house was unlocked and only the plumbing box was missing. Painting team not working. I got the number for painting boss and my lead called him. “Did one of your guys borrow my plumbing tools? You left the garage completely unlocked and my box is missing” Guy insists that they locked the door and the owners must of opened it up (Yeah…right). And they don’t know anything about the box.

Now we are really worried something strange is going on. My poor lead loaded all his big expensive tools into his van and took them home overnight.

This morning the painting boss drops off a couple of workers and is still telling my lead that they don’t have the box.

When I arrived at 11 I walked into the bedroom and told the Son of boss…“I cannot trust you to lock the garage. You left the garage door unlocked and you were responsible to lock it. No one else came to the house this weekend and unlocked the door. Because I cannot trust you to lock the door your crew will no longer have access to the garage or any keys to the house. If you have any of your tools in the garage you will need to take them out if you need them when we are not here.” I did not mention one word about stealing the big plumbing tool box.

Well, he must have run outside and called his Dad, the boss. About an hour later my lead’s cell phone rings and he’s talking rapidly in Spanish. Gee… the paint boss called to apologize because he just found out that someone on his team borrowed the plumbing box to fix something at his house and they didn’t know we were working Monday. OK…it’s now Tuesday afternoon and box isn’t here?? My lead knows it’s down in Tijuana somewhere fixing something. Paint boss said we would have it back by tomorrow.

I give my lead a lot of credit. He told the guy he would chalk it up as a ‘miscommunication’ and he wasn’t upset. Boy…he seemed pretty upset to me yesterday

I can picture your lead heading down to Tijuana himself to recover the box but sounds like he did not miscommunicate the need for that tool box to return intact immediately.

I bet the plumbing box is only coming back because of what you said. I still wouldn’t trust them.

I agree that they do NOT deserve trust.

Plumbing box is back. My lead is out at a specialty plumbing store getting 1 1/2" gas pipe threaded at custom lengths. This is because we have to move a big gas line running through attic to pool equipment. We have to move it to vault entry ceiling

Today is the day the elderly parents are moving out of their home in Poway. They already have 3 pods in storage somewhere that they filled before they listed their house.

All of this is supposed to go in the 2 bedrooms with the carpet. Luckily the old carpet got cleaned this week because I warned them that they should do the cleaning before stuff moves in.

So…this morning I call to get an ETA for arrival and hear “looks like it is going to take more than 1 trip”. What the hey are they going to do with all this stuff ??? Its certainly not going to fit in 2 small bedrooms. The rest of the house needs new flooring and anything stored has to be moved several more times to install flooring.

They need three more pods…and then help purging!

Almost 10 boxes arrived with old paperwork. She is a retired real estate agent. For heavens sake…throw it away.

Maybe a storage unit is in their future.

Ten boxes of old paperwork? Maybe she is just a hoarder!

Tell them your price was based on unfettered access to the entire house, and if they put anything anywhere outside of the two bedrooms, there is going to be an add-on charge of $50 per item every time you or someone on your crew has to move something.

I think that is unduly adversarial, especially given the relationship.

10 boxes of paperwork?? They definitely need a storage.

Rubbermaid makes great plastic sheds… that also work as shredders (when mice get in them, lol).

Maybe.

But I predict there will be complaining about the cost of renting more pods, and not wanting to pay to move stuff twice, and “we’ll just put the furniture in the other rooms, it’ll be easy to work around, there’s plenty of room”.

Meanwhile cb and her crew will have to worry about that stuff getting dirty or damaged, and they will have to constantly be moving stuff as they work through the house.

I agree, notrichenough, that there is some likelihood of the mother trying to do that. But it sounds as if the father will just say, fine, rent storage.

I just think that saying firmly but pleasantly that they can’t work around any stuff that doesn’t fit into the 2 bedrooms should be enough. The D, CB’s agent, can tell her parents (most likely her mother  ) that it can’t be done, without CB coming out of the box with threats of financial penalties and the like.

What I anticipate is that after everything is all done and the stuff is moved out of the 2 bedrooms, that they will be appalled by the contrast and ask to have the carpet ripped out.

This couple’s kid is a real estate agent. Can’t she find them a two month rental someplace? They aren’t going to have access to kitchen or bathrooms…so what’s the point of using the bedrooms?

I’m going to guess that I’m about the same age as these homeowners…and no way would I live anyplace without cooking, and kitchen. Do they even realize that they aren’t going to have these?

It’s crazy for them to bring a crap load of JUNK…and plan to live there as well. Just a bad plan overall.

And yes @consolation yeah green carpet is going to look awful once they can actually see it. But if they are covering it with boxes and crap…that might be MONTHS after CB is off of this job.
