It is an different shade of blue in the veins; maybe a sea blue or marine blue? It’s hard to know how accurate the picture is but this looks close: https://www.amazon.com/SomerTile-FKOMB21-Moonlight-Porcelain-Floor/dp/B00AXZRR30/ref=sr_1_9?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1505967377&sr=1-9&keywords=blue+bathroom+floor+tile

BTW our wood floor is all 2" wide planks so if you’d like to pull out our floor for them and replace it for us…

The veining in the countertop is medium blue, and most everything I’m finding in stores is running to the teal, turquoise range. And, although I love some of the tiles listed above, she is hesitant on patterns. I think she is leaning towards a dark greyish wood grain plank tile.

Honestly, everything we are putting on the floors does not look good in the room. It might have something to do with the fact they painted the walls the dingy pale yellow, cabinet is a worn off / white color, countertop is creamy yellowish ivory (but not same tone as wall color) with blue vein pattern and shower is white 4x4 tiles

Oh my. What a cacophony of colors. Maybe you can convince them that at least the walls can be repainted to match the floor? I would gladly offer my superior painting skills to help out!

If it was my bathroom I would be re painting it in a heartbeat to something that would neutralize the room. I would chalk it up to a minor design mistake at minimal cost to fix.

Do they think they’re saving money by keeping that vanity and blue marbled top?

This is an instance where it would likely be much less expensive to replace it with a vanity that would coordinate with simple inexpensive tiles and the bath would look very nice.

Except nothing is going to coordinate with the pink tiles!

I agree about the vanities…and counters. They need to go. Even an inexpensive one from HD would be better than what is there now.

ETA…here is the concern…if you tear the old vanities out…what water damage will you find on the walls and floor??

In my opinion… it is best to tear out vanities while you have the whole house torn apart. Fixing water damage in walls is much easier to do without brand new flooring already down and room already painted. Ughh!!!

I have spent a lot of time in the bathrooms pointing out the musty smell, the issue with mismatched coloring, the issue with trying to find any tile that will match the blue, etc. We have already torn apart the ceilings to take out those old 60s giant heat lightbulb fixture things. We are putting bath exhaust fans in each bathroom because there were no fans in the bathrooms. The windows are set really high in wall and are almost impossible to reach to open them up. So basically, the bathrooms have been cooking in swampy moisture for years. That is the reason the cabinets have absorbed moisture over time.

They think that putting in fans will solve the musty smell issues. OK, I guess we are going with that answer.

It’s the glamour of your work that makes us all jealous.

They think they are saving money and time (time being their bigger concern at this point).

They have moved into a one month furnished corporate rental in downtown San Diego (cost $3,000 for those who are curious). We have until Oct 17 to get them back into the house. So, I clearly stated that we will do everything to get the interior ready, but we may have to postpone some of the exterior work until after they move in (if we don’t make our deadline).

But, I walked them through and inquired on whether their bathroom items and kitchen items were clearly marked and on the outside areas of those crammed bedrooms so they could at least get their kitchen and bathrooms up and running in order to live in the house. I don’t even know where there bed frames are in order to set up a bed to sleep in. They have no idea where their kitchen and bath items are… there is no way they are moving into this house in any kind of organized manner. I don’t even know how they are going to unpack and get moved in.

I have loaded some new photos of our progress, painting complete and giant window arrival.

Everything in the kitchen is done and buttoned up, including insulating the exterior walls and attic. Drywall is starting to get installed today. Because this house is older, there is no insulation in the walls. There’s good R30 in the attic, but nothing else. So, changing out all the windows from single pane to Dual Pane Low E and adding insulation into the kitchen wall (nothern wall) ought to help keep this house insulated better.

My 1950’s house had practically no insulation. When we replaced all the windows they stuffed insulation underneath all of them and when we added the family room it obviously got insulated. It’s made a huge difference in my hearing/cooling cost. Now, after remodeling the big bathroom it is fully insulated.

It’s their problem how to get everything unpacked, sorted and set up, not yours.

cb, I hope your investor is able to come back and help you out soon, and that there’s a good opportunity for you on the market. You are so not enjoying this!

I know I am going to enjoy the next project (CC Remodel) because I’ve seen photos of what the owner wants and I’m all over it!!!

I accidentally posted this stuff in the wrong thread, so I’m copying it over here to keep the flow correct

Another afternoon spent with the owners out shopping for bath tile… we only need 32 sq ft and it’s driving all of us crazy. We also shopped for kitchen countertop and they are drawn to White Macaubus Quartzite, which is a natural stone. But, it’s pricey.

I took a piece home to do a scientific test (which required me to drink a glass of red wine!). Because I’m not familiar with Quartzite I wanted to know how it stands up to stains. Here’s the test:

Swiped 2 coats of 511 impregnator sealant onto the small piece of Nambia Fantasy Quartzite (which has a lot of shiny quartzite diamondy pieces that sparkle).

I probably didn’t wait long enough for the sealant to absorb properly, I only waited one hour and I think you are supposed to wait 4 hours.

Dropped red wine, olive oil and fresh lemon juice.

After 14 hours, olive oil did not absorb or stain. Red wine left a very slight pinkish stain which is not too noticeable in the overall veining of product. BUT… the lemon juice etched the finish. There’s a very noticeable etchning which removed the polished finish.

Yes, Grandma owners. Some things just don’t make sense. I know money is getting tight towards the end of the project and we’ve been talking about where to cut scope.

I finally convinced them to change out the small vanity in laundry area bathroom (I haven’t taken a picture because it’s so small I can’t wedge in sideways to get a good picture). Horrid brown pressboard 24" cabinet with the cheap fake yellowish marble in bad condition. They wanted to paint the cabinet. I said “Really? You can buy a new cute vanity with attached countertop/sink for $150”. So they went off to Home Depot and brought back the name of vanity they want. It’s a contemporary ledge style cabinet (no legs) in a strange washed oak color for $275. Does any of that make sense??? I haven’t rushed out to buy that because I’m still scratching my head.

So, we started our countertop search at the cabinet store. My personal opinion is that they overpaid for the cabinets but all they cared about was they found a place that promised “in stock” which wasn’t totally true. They went straight to the cabinet display and liked the quartzite, which is of course very expensive. I kept trying to show them the quartz choices but they didn’t like the designs. There weren’t good granite choices in that particular store. I’m going to let it sit for a bit and try again next week.

But I did notice something…everything now seems to have the square style bullnose. There was only one granite that had a rounded bullnose. Even the granites have square bullnose now

Is that from the country of Nambia?

Does it stain if you spill covfefe on it?

Good question. I didn’t try coffee. I’ll try that next. Coffee is something that sits on my countertop longer than anything else. It’s always lingering around the pot.

I have polished quartzite, and it’s held up well for 3 years. Nevertheless, I regret the extra $$ I spent on it. I don’t understand your customers sense of money.

I don’t know if that particular quartzite comes from Africa. I thought most of it comes from Brazil but I could be wrong.

I’ve found that a lot of slab and prefab vendors give different names to their countertop choices. This prohibits customers from comparison shopping at other stores. It’s all a big scam.
