Flip This House Grandma House

^ That’s cheating.

Trust but verify. B-)

@coralbrook or someone…could you please PM me the Flickr link?

How did we get those links for all the other flips @MaineLonghorn ?

I don’t believe there is a Flickr album yet for the Grandma house; probably won’t be one until cb gets to the house next month.

@thumper, maybe we didn’t see them! Flickr links are definitely not allowed.

Off to do a search…

Oh my…that view is gorgeous…and I love the outdoor pool area, and can see it well fixed up.

But the interior decorating! Bleh! Perfect for a CB facelift.

And please…get rid of all the horrid curtains!

“How did we get those links for all the other flips”

Someone’s got a big mouth (big fingers?)…

I don’t think the moderators read every post of every thread, especially when they are hundreds of pages long.

So sometimes stuff slips through… Now that Super Moderator MaineLonghorn is on the hunt, they will probably all get deleted, and people are going to get in trouble. Awesome.

OK, I was wrong! (write the date down, I don’t admit that very often) In my “flickr” hunt, I came across a moderators’ discussion. Apparently, flickr is a moderated site, so we allow links to it. Carry on! Now I just have to REMEMBER this!

Thanks, everyone! I can’t wait to see @coralbrook work her magic.

That house is fabulous – a perfect grandparents’ house. The pool is awesome, the three bedrooms will be perfect, and once cb does her thing, the kitchen/FR area will be wonderful too! Seems to me it’s got really good bones and a lot of potential. It just needs to be prettied up and then it will be a home run.

I have to admit I got a bit nauseous looking at all those photos. Get rid of that green carpeting first! And so many drapes - ugh. And please help with the concrete wasteland around the pool.

Phew, I feel better now. The house has great potential. Ask questions carefully to your wallpaper remover. My BIL and his H bought a very 80s house that had wallpaper everywhere and they realized that one contractor was just going to cover it up with a thin layer of sheetrock! They started taking it all down themselves and it was quite a bear.

Probably more cost-effective, but it won’t look as nice, and you have to have the right kind of molding around the floor, doors, and windows, or it will look terrible.

Considering when the house was built I’d be surprised if there isn’t hardwood flooring under the carpet.

If there’s budget (which I doubt there will be), that looks like the perfect location for an infinity pool.

An extra layer of sheetrock may be OK if all mouldings are to be updated, too. Extra sound and warmth insulation in addition to nice level 5 finish.

You’ve got to redo all the electrical outlets, too.

It’s not quick to steam it off, but the alternative method I’ve tried, which is to use some sort of bladed contraption to score the wallpaper and then soak the paper in something that will dissolve the glue, never worked well and really chewed up the walls.

Sheetrock is not a good heat insulator. The R value of drywall is 0.45 for a 1/2" thick piece. Skinning the walls, they would probably use 1/4" which would be half of that.

What is a “level 5 finish”? I never heard this expression before.

What’s the matter with the current pool? It’s the only thing I actually LIKE about this house.

Level 5 - flat, smooth finish used in commercial buildings. Spread dilute mud onto the sheetrock with a paint roller; scrape the mud off, prime, paint. No texture. That’s what one pro told me it is called.

so since flicker is a moderated sight, can someone PLUUEEZE post the link to the pictures you are all commenting on? :-*
I lost it from the prior flip.
pretty pleease??? :((

There are no pictures on flickr yet for the grandma flip. There is no link to post.

The pictures we are all talking about are from on-line listings. If you google the address you will find them. I’m not sure if we are allowed to post those links, so I won’t, but if you google it, one of the ones with pictures will be in the first few links.

In the original post I only coded the address for people to search. The address will take you to the listing online ne with photos. I did not know posting an address would be against Moderator rules since it’s not a link to a blog or website. But the address was removed from the original post

I have not started the project yet so I haven’t taken any before photos. So no Flickr account yet… no link posted.

We will be meeting at the house later this week for the 2nd time and I will try to remember to take photos.

They are hiring someone else to scrape popcorn ceilings and remove miles of wallpaper. There’s wallpaper everywhere, including the bathrooms. It looks minimal in the listing photos.

House is in Fletcher Hills area overlooking El Cajon valley. It is really hot out there in the summer!! We are going to hate working out there:)
