I agree poetgrl, this case is largely about being connected and power. in my view being connected and having power remains intertwined with race, at least in Florida, therefore I don’t think it’s one or the other.

I don’t call Zimmerman a racist, but I do believe he profiled TM based on the combination of his age, race and gender. I firmly believe it was that combination that in GZ’s mind made TM a “f—n punk” deserving of being followed and reported to police.

who knows what would have occurred if the police had arrived on the scene as GZ was following TM? Wonder how that might have played out?

Both Martin and Zimmerman are minorities. Where’s the police racism?

riprorin, all minorities are not treated equally, in Florida or anywhere else. There is a social pecking order in which someone like GZ would rank “above” someone like TM. Not to mention that GZ has a common “Anglo” last name.

A police officer could be racist against one of them, both of them, or neither of them (regardless of the race of the police officer).

and Sanford’s not so recent history;

The Robinsons were run out of Sanford, Fla. with threats of violence. They lived separately from the team in private homes in the black community. They ate their meals in black restaurants.

I think GZ prejudged TM. That does sound better.

Definition of PREJUDICE

preconceived judgment or opinion (2) : an adverse opinion or leaning formed without just grounds or before sufficient knowledge
b : an instance of such judgment or opinion
c : an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

Oh, please. They “conveniently” ignore it because other races have similar ratios as well.

“There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps… then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved.”
― Jesse Jackson

Jesse Jackson apparently pre-judges. And why do you think that this?

Sadly, because of the breakdown of the black family and the lack of a father figure, young black males are more likely to be engaged in criminal activity that young whites males.

I’m sure if another race had a breakdown of the home like the black community has had they would be experiencing the same thing.

riprorin? still curious, is your name meant to sound like rip roaring?

“About 7000 blacks are murdered per year, 93% of the time by other blacks, but the media conveniently ignores that.
Oh, please. They “conveniently” ignore it because other races have similar ratios as well.”

Blacks are 13 percent of the nation’s population, yet they account for more than 50 percent of homicide victims.

Hmm…so to determine if this fight against black-on-black violence is successful, should we look for a shift to other races? Got to get those percentages down.

Of course.

but in THIS case we are posting about a young man who was killed and was NOT a criminal, and he also had an involved father. just sayin…

sorry to distract you from your rant…

If you want to fall for divide and conquer tactics and be led around by the mass media, be my guest, but you are taking your eye off the ball.

what “ball” would that be, Riprorin? Do tell.

The links I posted contain information that hasn’t been disputed, to my knowledge and they’re relevant to whether motive or events alone explain Zimmerman’s actions, which would determine his punishment in the eyes of reasonable people and the law. If your complaint is really that I appear skeptical of some of the portrayals here, you’re right.

Not something I recall saying… would you mind quoting the post?

Who are you talking to?

I guess you missed my earlier post.

this thread is not about what you are perseverating…er, focusing on.

riprorin Can you link me to your stats, please? My numbers aren’t adding up to yours.
