Similar to @romanigypsyeyes ’ husband, I had the flu shot and am now in the midst of a "milder’ case of the flu - fever, chills, coughing, etc. Even though I still got the flu, I’m extremely thankful that it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
My friend’s wife is in the hospital now and he says it is full, suspect with tons of flu patients and other respiratory problems. He’s avoiding it since he has respiratory conditions and can’t afford to get sick. They’re keeping in touch via phone.
Stay healthy everyone!
Scary stuff -
Apparently, IV fluid bags are/were manufactured in Puerto Rico.
I just had to spend a night at a big ER in our County because my elderly Dad fell and fractured his back. It was a scene straight out of the news shows we are all watching. Packed in waiting room and everyone wearing masks, especially all hospital staff. Luckily, I was rushed in and i didn’t have to sit in Flumaggaedon. But, hospital so full that I found my Dad on a gurney in a hallway. No rooms available anywhere, they were at full capacity and he waited 7 hrs to get moved into a regular room upstairs in the hospital.
CB, that sounds awful. I’m so sorry.
CB, that is beyond awful. Big hugs.
The county north of us reported that there people died of flu last week. All were over 80.

CA has reported over 20 flu deaths this season, last time I checked.
My D called Friday night said she want feeling well I told her to immediately go to urgent care because of the large number of flu cases.
But ma, I got a flu shot.
Me: you still need to go to the doctor to find out what is wrong and get it treated
Ms, I went to urgent care. My test came back negative for the flu
That’s good, so why is your cold so bad?
Wait ma, not so fast, I have pneumonia
Seriously??? Arrgghhh
I’m restocking my home pharmacy after retiring/relocating. I just realized that I don’t have a working thermometer. What kind do you use/like?
digital thermometer with disposable covers
California reports flu deaths only for those under 65, so there are likely many more.
In Illinois, hospitals are so full that patients are being taken to hospitals a hundred miles away.
Oral, instant read? Have you found a brand that lasts? I don’t want to derail the thread. But all the flu reports are causing me to consider how to best prep for both diagnosis and treatment.
The one that lasts is the old fashioned glass one. With grown kids, I have occasion to use it at most every other year. I and probably much less. I don’t want to think about batteries failing, etc. My one or two will do me till the end of life.
We got a forehead thermometer from Costco after realizing that all of ours are dead.
Our 1st digital ear thermometer with disposable covers lasted for most of my 2 kids’ childhood. We are on our 2nd one, which is probably 2 years old. I replaced the battery only 1 or 2 times in the 1st one. I’ve read that the ear thermometers are more accurate than the forehead ones.
We have some glass oral thermometers and a digital ear one. D likes the digital one and I believe the glass ones are more accurate. To me, whichever one is going to be used is the key. When we participated in a clinical trial where they took our temperature when we went in to see them, they gave us the digital thermometer each time we went into the clinic. We noticed that those digital thermometers weren’t as reliable as the glas thermometers (but sure easier to read in varying light).
Here’s what the CDC says about the flu vaccine for people with egg allergies:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/protect/vaccine/egg-allergies.htm
Bottom line: Unless you had a severe allergic reaction to a previous flu shot, you should get the flu shot. If you are severely allergic to eggs, but have never had an allergic reaction to the flu shot, you should get the flu shot.
