Pulmonary embolism- blood clots on both th of my lungs (to this day, they do not know where my clots originated)
I’m at my parents and feel horrible. Fever, chills, aches oh my. I slept probably 20 hours today.
I’ll go to the local urgent care if i feel as bad or worse tomorrow morning. My rheumatologist doesn’t like me to mess around with fevers because of my meds.
Oh and my oral exam for candidacy is Wednesday. Weeeee
@romanigypsyeyes, I hope you feel better soon - but get to dr ASAP tomorrow if you still feel lousy. {hugs}
@romanigypsyeyes, feel better soon. Gosh, no good time to be sick, but right before your oral exams?!?! ARGH!
Oh no @romanigypsyeyes! I’m glad you are at your parents’ and hope they will fuss over you.
Well my mom just yelled at me because she saw my temperature. I’m going in.
Yeesh I turn 27 in a few days but I guess you never grow out of being your mom’s baby.
I hate the idea of my dd getting back on a plane in just over a week and returning to school - the thought of the germs flying around the plane, bleh! I almost wish she had had the flu while she was home on break b/c at least I could take care of her. Fingers crossed she will stay healthy once she gets back to school.
Of course, I probably should be more worried about my elderly parents. They leave this week for Hawaii - a long couple plane rides from the East Coast. While my father (and mother, for that matter) is in good health, at age 82.5, something like the flu could easily become serious if he were to get sick. I’m guessing they both had flu shots, b/c my mother, a former nurse, is pretty fanatical about that stuff. But then, we all know how unreliable the flu shot was this year unfortunately.
@romanigypsyeyes , hope you are feeling better soon.
So the flu is so prevalent up here, they ran out of rapid tests. Sent me home with a tamiflu script but it’ll have to wait for tomorrow because apparently 24 hour pharmacies aren’t a thing here. It’s only 9 o’clock!
I hope you recover well with no complications, rom.
No 24 hr pharmacies!?!?
I do not have the flu— just , I think, ,a bad cold. But my nose is raw from blowing it so much and my chest hurts from coughing up gunky stuff that drips down my throat (sorry, TMI). ANd this is after pumping myself full of cold meds. I picked the wrong day to have my car key break off in the ignition.
Oh, no. That is a bad day. Hope you and @romanigypsyeyes are on the mend soon!
@romanigypsyeyes, hope you’re better soon. I really didn’t want us all to go to the MD when D had the flu but his office told D to come in so we all went (didn’t want D to drive). I still think it would have been better if we were allowed to stay home.
D started improving shortly after starting the Tamiflu. Coincidence or responding? We don’t know or care but glad she was soon better and that H and I didn’t catch it since we took Tamiflu.
Is tamiflu over the counter or do you need a script?
You need a prescription.
Thanks, intparent.
My MDs generally call it in if I’m going on a trip or if I call their office and tell them I believe I’m starting the flu. They generally don’t want me coming in to see them when I’m ill and risk worsening or getting others ill.
I was surprised our internist had D come in—maybe because he had rarely EVER seen her. It can be useful to be seen to rule in if out other diagnoses. The allergist who we had used as our primary MD recently retired so we now have the internist instead.
I didn’t think I had the flu last year when I enter to the doctor; I just couldn’t breath (I have asthma, usually well controlled.). She gave me a flu test despite my protestations that I had had a flu shot. It was positive. This year I asked her for a prescription for Prednisone just in case the flu hits me again and I can’t get in to see her. She readily agreed so I’m feeling a little more in control in case the flu hits.
oh, no, Romani! Hugs.
It’s curious how different medicine is regionally. Our doctor told us the only place to get a flu test in our area is the ER. I’ve worked with large groups of families for years and I don’t think I’ve met anyone whose had a flu test or has been prescribed Tamiflu. If a doctors suspects the flu, s/he tells you to go home, take Tylenol or ibuprofen, rest, and stay hydrated.
