Wait, Taco Bell in the Union? That’s news to me!!! CCRunner, are you absolutely sure about this? If its true, WOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTT!!!

The Taco Bell is going in the Michigan League, not the Union.

China Gate is amazing non-authentic Chinese food. It’s the only place that makes sweet and sour chicken that I actually like.

China Gate is still around? Hehe!! Many fond memories of that place. The food there was tasty back in my day. I am not sure what “authentic Chinese” tastes like, but China Gate was definitely tasty, relatively speaking of course.

China Gate is good, as far as authentic Chinese food, you have to know what to order there, sometimes it’s pretty good. Your best bet is TK Wu for Chinese food, but it’s always packed during dinner time and it’s inexpensive.

“I was a loyal patron of China Gate…until I found a metal stapler in my Kung Pao Chicken.”

I guess they take the concept of “iron in your diet” a tad literally eh?! hehe!

TK WU is packed with Asians every night, it’s impossible to get a table. And the food isn’t even that great.

There’s a decent chinese place over on Stadium I believe near the post office called Szechuan House.

Haha, alexandre, I deleted that, because I don’t wanna hate on China Gate, its a good place that’s been around for a long time, but they really could work on the whole hygiene thing.

Completely true. Yet I still love it.

It tastes great! Dilks has it right - they have superb sweet and sour chicken. And orange chicken. And a ton more.

can anyone tell me the prices? And recommend ones that are have good food.

least expensive – ?? what resturants (McDonalds DON’T count haha)

affordable – ??

Expensive – ?? (of course, in the category, it has to be expensive AND good)

THanks again

China Gate really does suck. Try Kai Garden on Main Street…good stuff!

I love Pot Belly’s

Thank you, gomez95 =].
I’m beginning to think the Americanized Chinese food in Michigan is really bad or something. =P Honestly, most people I know, meaning my circle of acquaintance outside of Troy, Michigan, don’t like China Gate, especially International students from China and its surrounding areas, but that’s a given.
Unfortunately, I usually eat out with people like dilksy and tetrahedr0n =P.

Here’s approximate prices for things. It really depends on what you order, though. And unfortunately, there’s no McDonald’s on campus or else I’d regularly get “freshly brewed” artificial sweet tea.

Alexandre. Really? A whole stapler? How could they miss that? There are some good Chinese restaurants around town. You’ll need a car to get to some of them though. I agree with Alexandre on the quality of restaurants in Ann Arbor. Good, but not great. You have to go to the Detroit area to get better all around food in my opinion.

Middle Kingdom aint that expensive. I can get a dinner special delivered to my apartment for under 12-13 bucks. Although the guy that answers the phone is not very nice.

I agree rjkofnovi. GreekTown is the ****.

[aj] That’s because they’re only used to eating plain rice with nothing in it, and Chef Jan’s miraculous concoctions are just too much for them to be able to have right away. They need to build up resistance to flavor first. [/aj]

How is it? I’ve never tried.

It absolutely is. It’s pretty expensive though. But excellent.

I would classify Middle Kingdom as a classier, more refined China Gate. Similar quality food, but better, cleaner atmosphere. A bit more expensive (can’t beat the lunch special at China Gate for ~6 bucks). I would say it is probably the best chinese place in AA, but that isn’t saying much.

There’s also Dinersty on E. Liberty. Although the last time I walked by there, it didn’t look open.
