For: Accepted FSU Transfer Students Fall 2012

@nsanchez11

It’s about 6 weeks for me as well, I haven’t had any updates on my status page. Someone in another thread said that their page hadn’t been updated but when they called Admissions said their application was sent on to the college…

I called again today as was given a completely different update. Last week i was told that my application is within my college of major. But today i spoke with a transfer admissions officer and he actually said that my application is still under review with the regular admissions office.

He said it can actually take an additional 4-6 weeks from here…
His name is Michael.

That’s horrible! This wait is driving me crazy. If accepted are we even going to be able to get into University Housing? I thought I heard something about the last day to register is next week…

Housing only closes next week for returning residents- those that currently live on campus.

Regular housing applications close May 1, although transfer students can apply after that date.

My admission status changed to: “Your application has been reviewed by the Office of Admissions and has been referred to the appropriate academic representative for review.”

So I guess that means step 1 is out of the way and now I need to be accepted from the college of my major.

I know this is the easy part now but I am nervous because Marketing is limited access and I am a lower-divison transfer.

Anyone have some feedback? or has anyone’s status changed??

I applied in late January. I would have sooner but, I wasn’t sure if I going to stick with my last major choice til then. The only updates I have since where “you’re language requirement was satisfied in college” and my transcript from my CC was received by FSU. I’m in a odd position. I applied for FSU for Spring '12 (now) last May and was accepted in about mid August. But, I had to drop a class over the summer so I messed up my prereq track and told them that I wouldn’t have them all done by Spring. Flash forward to December, I finish my AA and graduate from my CC but, without my prereqs completed, I decided to spend spring at my CC finishing prereqs. Then less than a month in I decided that I wanted to major in something else with the prereqs finished.

So, now I’m kind of wondering what will happen because I didn’t attend when I was accepted last and I don’t think that “AA transfer” thing applies since it looks like it must occur “immediately before” transferring for priority.

Quick update, mine also says now: "Your application has been reviewed by the Office of Admissions and has been referred to the appropriate academic representative for review. "

This is first real update I had since I applied on 1/29/12

I’m guessing since freshman are done they finally started getting the ball rolling on my app? Or is this a sign that I can expect a decision sometime this month? :D

I’m not worried about getting accepted, I’m more worried about what will be left of housing when I am.

My name is Artem, I’m an incomming Soph. Didnt set an orientation date yet. Majoring in Psych but pre-med track. I love hockey so I understandably transferred to a state known for their hockey. Not sure if im going here yet. Do you find out if you got any scholarship online or in the mail?

makeitsunni, unfortunately, you’re pretty much going to be left with whatever is open for housing.

throwaway11, you are informed of any and all financial aid items under your Financial Aid Student Toolkit, under the Secure Apps tab on Blackboard (Campus.fsu.edu). It is all online.

Would being a non-traditional student (24) help my situation a little?

I applied for non-traditional housing (I’m 25) and had them cancel my regular dorm housing contract. I had a # in the 5000s. Nom-traditional is separate from applying to the traditional housing so I applied for Rogers Hall. They said the sooner you apply the better your chance of getting assigned (of course). I applied a couple weeks ago & got priority #220.
I suggest going that route.

Non-traditional housing would definitely be a better choice. You’re probably going to end up in Rogers then, which is definitely more suitable for you than one of the freshman dorms, since it’s a full apartment.

You might also get lucky and sneak into a spot in McCollum or one of the other upper-classman dorms. I recall last summer that they sent out emails to the returning housing residents about how there was still space left in McCollum in I think July, for those that wanted to switch. What with the new Traditions Hall opening, I wouldn’t be surprised if something similar happened this year.

But to sum up my rambling: non-traditional definitely helps.

That’s relieving info. I’ll be sure to apply for non traditional!

My status still hasn’t even changed to “sent to appropriate department for review.” :frowning: I applied in January and sent them an email a week ago. No response yet.

This waiting is torture, haha.

About applying for non-traditional housing, you have to keep in mind that it isn’t available in the standard housing application. It’s actually, in my opinion anyway, rather difficult to find the application on the website. I guess that’s sort of a sneaky way of trying to get you to apply for the regular housing instead. I actually had trouble looking for the link to the non-traditional housing application, and I already knew where to look.

In order to not apply for regular housing, you will need to use [this link](https://nwrdc.fsu.edu:1204/fsysrr70) instead of the one that is listed prominently on the FSU housing website.

If you’re wondering whether the link you are using to apply for housing is for traditional (regular freshman/upperclassman dorms) or nontraditional, look for one of two things:

In the terms and conditions that are listed on the page, if it says your deposit is $225, it’s the traditional housing. Nontraditional housing only requires a $75 deposit. You’ll find the price listed under item #5 on the page:

Just above the links to apply for housing (where you click on either new or current resident), you should see the following message:

If you don’t see that message, you’re most likely on the wrong application.

Hope this helps!

I applied as a transfer with over 60 credits and an AA to the Biology program and I am a little confused as to which prereq’s you have to have completed to be admitted…There is a list of prerequisite course work which includes Bio 1 & 2, Chem 1 & 2, Organic Chem 1 & 2 and Calc 1 & 2…But then it says under Admission Requirements: “Satisfactory completion (C- or higher) or core courses including BSC 2010, 2010L, BSC 2011, 2011L, CHM 1045 and 1046 with labs, or their equivalents (NOTE: Registration in upper division biological science courses will not be permitted until these core courses are satisfactorily completed.)”

Does that mean Calc 1 & 2 is required for admission or just BSC 2010,2010L, BSC 2011, 2011L & CHM 1045/1046…

Any help would be greatly appreciated! =)

@EileenM

I was in exactly the same boat about a week ago, except I’m planning to major in another science. Facts.org and this one FSU page gave me this long list of higher-level stuff (Up to Calc 3, Physics 2, Like 5 chemistry classes, etc.) which would have been extremely inconvenient to take, since it would delay me by a good number of semesters. I e-mailed one of the contacts for my major, however, and she said that I only needed a few classes (no physics, no calc… and they actually prefer that I take the upper-level Chem. classes with them, contrary to facts.org) which was a tremendous relief. It ended up being closer to the milestones listed for semesters 1-4 (~2 years at a CC) on FSU’s academic map page. Here’s the bio one. Milestones are on the right.

[The Florida State University](http://www.academic-guide.fsu.edu/Maps/Mapbiology.html)

Anyhow, you might not even need all of those. Mine listed Calc 1 but she said that I technically could do that at the U after I transferred, so the required courseload might be even lighter yet if any of those classes are a problem for you. It’s VERY important that you talk directly to an academic adviser or admissions person for your major. Good luck!

I’m leaning more towards the shorter list being the correct one by the way, simply because you said that the longer one required Org. Chem 1+2… and I had an academic adviser tell me point-blank that the University prefers transfer students (at least for my major) to take these at FSU.

Alrighty, that’s what I thought…I just wanted to make sure because registration opens this week at my current university for Summer…I will call an admissions adviser just to make sure… I am registering for Organic 1 and 2 this summer at my current school, hopefully FSU won’t be upset about that…I just want to knock out as many courses as possible so I can graduate as soon as possible… Thanks for your help!! =)

So, after roughly 60 days from submitting my application I finally got accepted! Now here comes all the fun stuff of filling out forms/etc.

If anyone else is still waiting I can’t imagine it being much longer.
