I agree about the homosexuality issue- I think it’s cruel and dysfunctional when families do not support their gay children. But I won’t judge people on things like whether they like rock, or go to an accredited high school. My nephew goes to a school that is accredited through a church but not through the state. He is getting a great education.</p>
<p>How about if I said it wasn’t normal for kids to not play sports or join fraternities? (Things my kids have done) Or wear polo shirts and Oakley sunglasses? I’m certainly not going to indict a family because their daughter decides to become a nurse or a teacher or SAHM instead of an engineer or architect.</p>
<p>Your points about homosexuality I agree with- if in what you are saying about this family is true- but I don’t think anyone really knows, do they?</p>

I’m not judging them on what music they listen to or what professions their children go into, I’m judging them because it doesn’t sound* as if these children have been given the opportunity to see and consider the choices that the world offers. My problem is not a woman wanting to be a teacher, nurse, or homemaker/housewife. My problem is if a young woman in America in the 21st century hasn’t been raised to see anything else as an option. </p>
<p>I also don’t have much of a problem with non-accredited education for kids, but if that education is restrictive and doesn’t allow students to go to accredited colleges in order to advance in the fields in a respected manner, then it’s a different story.</p>
<p>*As I said, my perceptions are based on the article I read, what people have said in this post, and snippets I’ve seen on TV. They may not actually reflect the family accurately.</p>
<p>Do these kids have relationships with others outside of the family…do they leave the compound? and ps- going to church is not necessarily creating frendships that most normal kids need</p>
<p>as well, when the kids were building the house, was child safety taken into consideration, ie a ten year old welding?</p>

<p>DP, can you honestly say that you think it is right for a young girl to be in charge of ALL the laundry for a family of 19, ALL BY HERSELF? I think it is slavery!</p>
<p>Do you think it is right for girls to have NO options in a family, beside washing clothes, making dinners, and taking care of the children that their mother keeps producing (but only cares for until they are weened)?</p>
<p>Do you think it is healthy for children to have no social life outside of the family, no connection with other children their own age?</p>

<p>Of course we can be judgemental. They put their family on display, and have been bought by TLC. Yes, they have a fancy new 7000 sf home, but in return, all of America gets to have an opinion on how they live their life.</p>

<p>People love to be voyeaurs and look into other people’s lives…and in return, those on display get new kitchens, etc.</p>
<p>CGM, the issues are a little different. I’m not sure about this particular religion, but in Catholicism birth control, besides abstinence, is strongly discouraged because it is believed that sex should always be open to the possibility of producing children. Sex should not be for bodily pleasure alone. It’s a specific issue and doesn’t have a general “God’s Plan” inspiration.</p>
<p>So post menapusal women shouldn’t get married?</p>
<p>but see, in Catholicism, they do practice birth control to a degree, the classic rhythym method, may not work all the time, but hey it is birth control, just not artificial…</p>

<p>when did I bash Catholicism, btw, my first reference was to Quvierful, and then someone mentioned Catholics and birth control, and Catholics do practice a form of birth control, albeight natural planning, unlike the Dugger Family that have sex to make babies and have no self control because its all God’s will</p>
