Zooser - The cannoli cheesecake is a family favorite for special occasions! YUM!

I have this new obsession. Luscious Lemon Cream Cake. I’ve been buying it weekly. Unfortunately, I’m the only one who eats it, but somehow it ends up finished every week. Must be elves.

What Spiedes marinade?

Thanks, BI. I’ve heard about Wegman’s for awhile. Anxious to try it. Better bring lots of $$. And coolers!
Oy on the bakery items, zoosermom. I’d better stay away altogether. Just spent the last few years gaining weight. That was fun. :o Now I gotta concentrate on taking it back off :(

mmmmmmmmmmm

marinate beef cubes overnight, grill them up with some cherry tomatos and onions…oooohhhhhhhh sooooooo…delicious

they have it for chxn but I really like the beef

They do right by their employees for things like flexible shift adjustments for students on exam week, or families with children/eldercare medical situations.

They had a drive-through on request where someone loaded grocery bags into the car trunk, pulled up close to the store, and a no-tip policy there. Maybe other suburban stores do this, but I’d never seen it before. That got me through some surgery recoveries, where one is fatigued for a long while afterwards and every physical assist helps maintain stamina. I didn’t need anyone to shop for me, but that one service kept me coming back to Wegmans over other stores, for months.

I first learned about it when the hiring committee for H in Buffalo took me there during his interviews, to impress us. Definitely a dealmaker.

chocchipcookie, it was undoubtedly a reference to [Salamida State Fair Spiedie Sauce & Marinades](http://shop.spiedie.com/) . Yum…

Do most of the newer ones have a child care room? That was great for us. It’s glass so you can see in, but there is a door with an alarm that sounds if it is open more than 5 seconds. They used to give you a beeper (but I think now they just call your cell) if your child needs you, and matching bracelets. Free and a lot of fun. My DD went when she was 3 just after it opened. She is 14 now and the same girl is still running the program. Ours also has Breakfast w/Santa, a Halloween party, and various other classes and book signings, depending on the store. Chocchipcookie: make sure you go hungry. The prepared foods are a bit $$ but I usually spend less than I would at McD and it is “real” food. Make sure you check out the $6 meals. There are microwaves around so you can heat it up. Some stores are more elaborate than others. If you ever have a chance to go to the Pittsford store definitely do. Even if it’s just for lunch or to walk around. I can get to 4 stores in 20 minutes or so. It is definitely a “destination”. Teenage D met a friend there for lunch last week, and it is very common for small groups to have meetings there. They donate to every school event and scout project when they are asked. I teach preschool and they always give me bags, meat trays or lids just for the asking. Our other main store is Tops, which is very no-frill. I find most things more expensive there. We also have Trader Joes. Wegman’s is quite a bit cheaper and definitely more selection.

I’ve been to the Pittsford flagship, including the old Tastings, but the the stores Wegmans has built in the last eight or so years ROC just as hard as the Rochester burbs.
FWIW the one I use in Fairfax has just as great a selection, might be a bit larger (I think there are more checkouts), and even sell Rochester goodies like Dinosaur bbq sauce.
One other tidbit: the Wegmans in State College is the only one open 24/7.

Does anyone else remember the conveyer belt? The bagger would put your groceries in a plastic bin and stick the bin on the conveyer belt. Then your groceries would travel on a circular conveyer belt from front of the store, through an opening in the front window and then outside. You’d pull your car up and there would be people outside to put your things in the trunk.

Very exciting times for an 8 year old!

The Canandaigua store is open 24 hrs.

Reminds me of a job I had in high school at a mom and pop grocery store. I carried bags to cars for shoppers. I delivered groceries to homes too…pulled a wagon to nearby customers homes. The owner drove me to homes over 1/2 mile away.

Yikes. Whoever told me to check out their website, omg. It looks yummy. I love creating fresh recipes. Looks like I’ll have a field day there! Yes, I will definitely go to experience this and go hungry! ;)

I’ve been looking for a lesser expensive version of Whole Foods for awhile, this may be it, hooray!

Good for them. A small family business that’s expanding. I actually prefer to go to small family owned restaurants whenever I can vs. the large chains, so this is right up my alley.

I love Wegmans but it hasn’t been small for a long, long time.
Expansion started back in the '70s and they now have close to 90 stores with revenues of almost $7 billion.

I love Wegmans!!! Here in the Utica, NY area we do not have one and it is a shame. My daughter’s roommate lives in Maryland and even they have a Wegmans/ I have to drive to the Syracuse area (and I am 45 minutes on the opposite side of Utica) to go to Wegmans. When I do I am in heaven though. Love the sushi bar, the sub sandwiches, the wonderful selection of meats, the ethnic and health food selection. I could go on forever.

I have a question for all Wegman’s lovers. Do your stores have a human/cart pinch point at the entrance? I shop there at least once a week and almost every time I go there is a clog in the traffic flow just inside the door. The carts are lined up in tight lines, with the outside line being the smaller sized ones. All it takes is for a mom with young children to settle into the seat, or someone to meet a friend unexpectedly, and a line forms out the door. People leave and enter through one set of doors on each side of a large T shape. I often have to wait to get in.

Once I get my cart I must make a 90 degree turn to enter the store. That part of the entrance is bisected by seasonal stuff so that it is only one cart wide on each side. If one shopper stops to look at wines or clementines, everyone behind has to wait.

The store itself is everything I could hope for. Getting out has the same problems as getting in. Once checkout is done the lane is very narrow to get to the door area. If anyone in front has to stop for anything, there is a jam.

Is my store more poorly designed than any others?

The store where I shop doesn’t have a pinch point at the cart entrance, but it has a hellacious pinch point at the beginning of the prepared food section. It drives me insane and I consider it extremely poorly designed, but that’s the only thing I complain about.

From the Wegmans website, it appears as if most of their New York stores are open 24/7 (if not all). All 5 within a 25-mile radius of my home are. I will say that shopping before 7 AM or after 9 PM is not the same experience as shopping at other times, though.

I do love Wegmans but am getting tired of them moving stuff around constantly to increase the amount of time I spend in the store. You already get enough of my money, Wegmans - I’m not going to spend more there, even if it does take me an extra 15 minutes every week to find what I bought quickly 2 years ago. And where were the chicken thighs tonight, btw? None in a flagship store? Not good.

Does anyone else find the apples, pears, etc really large at Wegmans?

^^^ 24/7 - Some Lions have been feeding me outdated intel…
