does it help if they ride in cars frequently when young and periodically thereafter ? Does that effectively desensitize them?</p>
<p>I think a good time to get a pet as a young person is when they are in a stable housing situation so they don’t have to worry about having to move somewhere that won’t allow pets. Many young couples get one before having children. My H and I did that many many years ago, had a dog about 6 years before having children. It was a good taste of responsibility. I agree that some pets are much easier than others. Big dogs are a lot of work.</p>
