For those who believe that a top-tier law school is the only route to success

Is that what you really mean? Self-indulgence is what society needs a little more of these days? What an interesting perspective!

“Is that what you really mean? Self-indulgence is what society needs a little more of these days? What an interesting perspective!”

Ah, but my cynical friend, you’re assuming that “self-indulgence” is really what makes us happy. I would disagree with that.

Most people’s definition of success seems to center around other people’s views of success – large wealth accumulation, positions of power, etc. Generally, very ego-centric in nature.

But I think many would agree that this kind of naked self-aggrandizement is rarely what creates true happiness. True happiness, in my opinion, usually involves development of fulfilling relationships, feeling we’re doing the “right thing”, etc. In other words, things that are beneficial to society.

To the extent happiness relates to our professional lives, I think society is generally best served by people pursuing whatever they’re passionate about, as they’ll probably be more effective in those fields (as opposed to people pursuing professions they feel they “should” pursue).

But you’re certainly entitled to your own opinion.

Nope…my opinion is the same as yours; I just misunderstood your first post.
