I think people are confusing Science Olympiad with Physics Olympiad or Math Olympiad, etc.
Science Olympiad is a team activity, having both written tests and building/creative thinking type competitions. There are no individual events. My kids have also earned medals in State competitions, but the I think the value of this activity lies more in organization and cooperation than necessarily in knowledge.

Just finding this thread. S got into very competitor schools, including Brown and Amherst, with 690 in math. He chose Williams. He had 760 verbal and 730 math. Unhooked and from very competitive LI. He did have a 34 on the ACT ( true to form 31 math, but 36 science). I don’t know if that turned the trick. We sent it all. He also had a 2 on the Latin AP, which he knew was abysmal, but we went it anyway.
