@MYOS1634 the scholarship goes away if i defer and i really dont want to take a gap year and i also wouldnt earn enough to get me to go to any of those schools because they would all require me to dorm and dorming fees are expensive even though their initial tuition isn’t.
So, the question is solved: you have to attend SJU and take the PA classes.
Gosh. I would go ahead, become a PA, work for 2 or 3 years (taking the physics or whatever classes you are missing anywhere you could and whenever you could) and then apply for med school. You can save up a boatload of money and come out way ahead financially than your med school classmates. You might actually be a better doctor in the long run (and easier to work with in the hospitals) for having been a PA first. Good luck!
^ I second this. Take whatever supplemental coursework you need part-time after completing the PA degree and you are working. Who knows, you may end up enjoying the life of a PA? If not, giving it a try and then pursuing a MD will set you back only a few years. You will have credentials, skills, and the means to earn a good income along the way.
I’m sure it must chafe that your parents are choosing your major for you. But, depending on their income, you might not be able to afford any other alternative. Your eligibility for financial aid is linked to their income and assets until you are 24. If the MD is your goal, racking up debt before commencing medical school will also delay establishing yourself.
Good luck with your decision.
@MYOS1634 currently attending st. johns in PA program. i honestly think i dont know what i want for myself in terms of career goals which is a problem. the question is not solved.
How are you doing with your classes? If you ever want to go to med school, you’ll need as many A’s as you can get and a B+ is the lowest possible grade.
The first semester isn’t over yet but I must say I’m doing pretty well. Sure there’s a significant workload but it’s not too bad.
