Daughter got in with approx 3.97 GPA–cant remember exactly. 35 ACT, IB classes, mostly HL. Benchwarmer in 2 Varsity sports. She has a pretty developed health-related EC list, as she is pretty focused on medicine, with a lot of service-related work at the hospital and in the community.
I think Fordham admitted students that they feel have a decent chance of enrolling. If your student has an off the hook application, that student is often looking at many very good schools. My older daughter got into Bowdoin, Tufts, Dartmouth, etc, but was waitlisted at Skidmore. (I don’t believe they expected her to enroll.) Many schools are doing this. Last, schools admit for many reasons, and many students have great grades and scores etc. There is no recipe that will get you in right now. Especially if you are an upper/middle class girl, as they seem to make up a large portion of the applicant pool these days.
We are confused about the merit situation. Our D was sent a notification that merit/financial aid offers are coming on a rolling basis starting late Jan, but the school has sent mixed information about what a student needs to do to qualify for non-need merit (which will weigh heavily into our Ds decision at Fordham).
Does Fordham require the FAFSA and/or CSS profile for merit scholarships? This would be a first in our experience as other schools have, or confirmed they will, offer merit with their acceptances and no additional app (although a little dated, this was also true for our older kids).
When my son applied in 2021, Fordham required FAFSA and CSS for merit scholarships. Between my kids, we have applied to probably 40 different colleges and Fordham was the only one that required this for merit.
Fordham is the only school I’ve seen that requires this for merit aid. We received multiple emails in November/early December to submit both forms to be considered for merit. Also, at a local presentation given by Fordham admissions they said 96% of students receive some aid…I asked if that included merit and they said yes.
My daughter received an email this afternoon stating that the financial aid package is available. On the financial portal it shows the scholarships she has been awarded. When she was accepted, she was not awarded any scholarships. She now has a Loyola Scholarship and a Fordham Tuition Award.
