Yes for him it’s all about what the program can offer him to facilitate him achieving his goals. His exact words to me today after discussing the feedback from this thread “I plan to have my head to the table and focus on my career aspirations. I will contribute through leadership, community service and research. My goal is to learn, network, and land the job. Whichever school offers me the best opportunities I’m going, regardless of the prestige, nightlife or campus size.” Fordham is hands down the best option with what’s been currently offered to him. Thank you for providing us an overview on how valuable the global view will be for him.
I do feel the Fordham Global business honors program is much more beneficial for his major and his aspirations. The networking, global exposure, research opportunities, etc provides specific value to business major students.
Fordham’s Gabelli Global honors versus Schreyer Honors at PSU is a personal choice.
PSU has one of the largest alumni networks in the world. Attending PSU is a very different experience than attending Fordham University (either campus).
At Gabelli Global Honors, one is essentially required to engage in the benefits of the program, while PSU Schreyer Honors affords an individual much more flexibility & freedom.
PSU offers Greek social life (frats & sororities); Fordham University does not offer Greek social life. Some students aspire to join a fraternity or sorority, while others do not. This could influence one’s choice between PSU Honors & Fordham Gabelli Honors.
My son isn’t a frat type of personality. He spends his free time researching stocks, volunteering in the Forrest, building car engines and hanging out with friends bowling, playing pool or watching a movies. He’s not into sports or going to parties, lol that’s my daughter thing for sure.
Going to throw something in - Penn State has a fund that is totally managed by students - I think is is about $10mm. Extremely competitive to be selected, but kids are very successful.

Sounds like he is a kid who will be successful either place - what does he think is a better fit?
You know…it’s not like there is nothing to do in NYC!
No one said there wasn’t. They are two different environments. You took one sentence out of a longer message. Some prefer urban. Some prefer traditional.
I think OP has already stated that her son prefers the benefits of Fordham vs Penn State. So not sure why the thread goes on.
I’m sure the student can be successful anywhere.
Congratulations on your son’s many accomplishments! Reading this, and your other descriptors, its seems pretty clear that what he is looking for is the best environment for education, internship opportunities, networking, volunteerism, etc. Not hearing a peep about rah rah sports or frat life. Many of us attended schools without either and not only loved our college experience, but also made our academic choices based on the environment that would provide us with the most of the opportunities we desired. You are fortunate too to not have to worry about the costs, and the scholarship is an added bonus!! Congratulations on both, but here’s one more solid vote for Fordham!
Thank you. He actually wrote about this fund in his application to the honors college. He selected only schools which all had student run funds including Cornell, Fordham, Nyu, Smeal, Penn etc. to apply to because of his interest in participating in it.
