My dad found $80ish dollars for me, and I found over a thousand for my husband’s aunt. Having last names that are not as common seems to make the search easier.

I totally agree. When I typed in my bizarre, Finnish maiden name, to see if there was anything under that…is when it brought up my grandmothers name. With the 2 life insurance policies. I would have never thought to search under her name.

I didn’t find anything for anyone in my family.:(

I heard from a former accountant that missingmoney takes a cut. Don’t know if that’s true, but you can search a state’s site separately to find the unclaimed property.

Cool, I know there’s nothing for me (ain’t no way I’m “losing” a 401K), but I’m going to forward this to my parents. They actually discovered, a few years ago, that all of the checks people had given them for gifts/loan payback, whatever…had gone into a separate checking account in their bank that they hadn’t realized they had.

There was 40K in that undiscovered checking account. How the heck do you not notice that one?!
