Frankenstorm

That is a huge hospital (it’s where my dad passed away). Hoping for the best for the patients there. Is the FDR flooded by the east river?

I heard 5 have lost their lives. Saw a pic of times square on tv, lights on but of course empty. My D says her friend at NYU says it is ok there. My niece not in an evacuation zone expects to lose power but is ok NY. I think Boston is in good shape.

FDR Drive and First Ave from at least 34th St towards the south were flooded earlier this afternoon. Don’t know if water has receded. It’s pitch black in that area, according to my son.
I thought of the people who may still be trapped in elevators.

We are in Mid Atlantic. The winds are unbearable and the trees around our home are terrifying. We are trying to sleep in the basement. Actually taking turns to sleep. My DH and D are sleeping right now. I miss my Son so much right now.

Wishing the best for all of you who weathered the storm last night.

Hope power is restored soon. My S#2 was without power for 5 days last month from Hurricane Isaac. No fun.

coolwind:

Son’s GF lives on the Main Line and just had wind and “some rain” yesterday. No big deal, according to her.

The video footage of the large fires in Queens is terrifying. Over 50 homes have burned to the ground with 2-3 dozen more at risk. A 6 alarm fire at the height of a hurricane is not a good thing, with wind, rain, flooding, downed power lines and compromised water pressure.

Latest AP report says 17 dead from the storm. It’s moving inland and then taking a sharp turn north so the New England states can expect to see heavy rain/snow later today/tomorrow. 7.4 million homes/businesses without power.

We’re feeling it in Ohio. My street is blocked off this morning, as I think there is a tree down. My son just moved into an old mansion in Cleveland on Sunday. It’s a shared situation, where he doesn’t know the other tenants. His power went out last night. Happy Halloween! This morning he’s supposed to assist with surgery at 8:30 (It’s 8:10 right now, not 3am, as my post was stamped), but the freeway he was going to take is closed. I’m studying maps to find alternate routes.

I don’t see snow in the forecast for nh or ma right now. The temps would seem to be too high. I do hear thunder right now.

We have sunny and warm temps for the end of the week which should melt any potential snow.

Just read one article on CNN. One NYC resident is looking for the silver lining in this mess and said that he looked out the window of his apartment and saw the flooding and now he has a view of the river :D.

We feel very fortunate to have come through with only some branches down in our yard. Last October we lost power for a week; this time not at all. We live in central CT, in the CT River valley and those towns seem to have fared better than those in the eastern or western parts of the state, not to mention the devastation on the shoreline.

Hope everyone dealing with outages, damages, etc. stay safe and get their lives back to normal soon.

BC, ditto for Upstate/Eastern NY. We are on the warm side of the storm. Going to 65 today with t’storms in the forecast and in the 50’s for rest of the week. We also escaped unscathed - hardly any power outages as we had little wind and just a few brief showers over night.

DH made it home around 4:30am and was gone by 7:00. He said the situation in NYC/LI is horrific and that pretty much everything right now is geared to search & rescue ops and I assume same for NJ and CT.

A few trees down in our neighborhood but we still have power (except for people whose trees happened to take out the wires). I thought it was very courteous of my neighbor’s tree to miss both our houses and several cars, choosing to land in the garden instead.

Watching the news:

A tanker washed up on Staten Island

there is something like 11 feet of water in the Bklyn Battery Tunnel. & subway tunnels are flooded (mass transit is going to be a mess). Mayor is giving a conference in a few.

Took a short walk around neighborhood. All is ok at our house, a lot of leaves and branches to be picked up. Next door neighbor lost his fence. Lost a couple of big trees in the park.

Philly really dodged a bullet. My thoughts are with those who weren’t as lucky. The footage I’m seeing of Jersey and NYC is striking.

Emilybee, I wish your H could have gotten more rest… Why did they not put the workers up? Wish him well. Posted 9:22 central time.

No school today in Ohio. Stay safe everyone.

Phila- roof damage to student apartment building son lived in at Penn. He says his center city building is fine.
