Frats at IU

Beta-There were scholars and ambitious. Now they are sliding down hill by taking joke pledges. It happens to all recolonized houses. They start strong and back slide. They are now taking guys with low GPA’s They balance this with a few achievers. Look at the bids they just gave out.
Acacia-Broken down house of guys who party heavily. Their nick name still applies.
Sigma Chi-Carmel and HSE need only apply. They have no interest in legacies, high achievers, or leaders.
Pi Kappa-Athletic guys. Nice Jocks.
Phi Psi-One of the most worn out houses on the campus. The house is truly a wreck.

I personally know high GPA, outgoing, and normal guys who can’t get bids. This IU frats think life is all about TFM. They don’t get the joke. Frats are only important to frats. No employer of any value will care in the least if you were in a house. They only care about grades, course work, internships, and leadership positions. If you are a mediocre student it may help if by dumb luck you interview with a brother from your same fraternity. If you are a Beta and a Sig Chi interviews you, what good will that do in the slightest? The fraternity system is solely about socializing. IU would reduce it’s underage drinking tomorrow by banning the houses. The frats party on a scale that is beyond belief. The school tolerates the out of control tailgates all fall.

The odds are against getting into what is a so called good house. Those that consider themselves elite choose new members based on no real criteria. If they really followed their charters the GPA’s would be much higher in frats. Watch Beta’s GPA drop as they continue to lower standards.

The 80% of Non-Greeks or GDI’s as they are called as a slur will graduate and get jobs at the same rate as Greeks. This job training after all.
