yes, the ice & water thru the door is a major point of failure and the highest repair rate.
Thank you! $2799 is the sale price! This is one of the pricey ones I was referring to.
I also personally prefer having the external ice and water dispenser.
Iâm sure Iâll have to give up my dreams once this one goes, haha! I like it very much for its features, itâs just not a great quality product.
I have a GE Monogram, with two drawers on the bottom. No external ice maker. I really like it.
It was easy to contact GE and have serviceman here in a day.
My kids bought a house with GE Cafe. They like that too. When they replaced their stove, got a Cafe to match.
Thank you! And, because the LG is aware that I am posting mean things about it, the freezer is now failing and the water dispenser is leaking. ![]()
And I did a little bit of searching and found Whirlpool and Frigidaire versions of the 4 door with water/ice dispenser on sale! Maybe Iâm in the market after allâŠ
Hint - For leaky water dispenser, look for a shutoff valve behind fridge.
After 10 years, our 1993 side/side water dispenser stopped working. (When one of the kids asked why we were not repairing it, I decided they were not especially worried about finances with Dad being out of work.) Down the road a new problem started, where water dispenser had slow leak - that was a real concern (and darn, hubby was back at work and on a business trip). I could not find the expected fridge shutoff valve in basement rafters. Had to work with the kids to create a rube goldberg water capture system, with vacuum hose and duct tape (one of their favorite things) and trash can. So I definitely understand why some folks avoid water/ice dispensers. (We still got it on next two fridges. We turn off ice maker when we go on vacation. It would be better to turn off the shutoff valve, but itâs a pain⊠only do it for a very long trip.)
Aaand⊠itâs working fine this morning, even the freezer and the ice maker. Getting it checked this week but maybe itâs⊠haunted??
Normally Iâm not in favor of extra bells whistles features on appliances. But our fridge purchased a few months ago has already twice âbeepedâ upon noticing that the door had not been fully closed. Oops. (Ha, the second time there was no mystery figuring out the where/why on the new alarm tone).
Maybe the line had frozen, and it defrosted itself overnight?
The new refrigerator was finally delivered yesterday - and it also was damaged in the back, but not enough to matter. We are getting a $250 credit for the damage. The whole Loweâs charge system is a bit of a mess but it will work out in the end.
After one day, Iâm very happy. Itâs much easier to see where everything is and itâs roomier. Husband is enthralled with the door water dispenser.
Old and new:
$250 will buy a bunch of groceries! Glad you like your new fridge and that Loweâs made it right.
We like our 36â counterdepth LG a lot. Never hooked up the water to the fridge or even took the sticker off the side water spout, because we donât use ice, and like our water from the tap. Right there, that solves the most common problems with refrigerators!
We have an ancient (2006) Kenmore stainless steel French door fridge, and itâs still hanging in there although it makes weird noises and the icemaker does not work anymore. Years ago, the ice started tasting weird and we could not fix this problem, so we just stopped using it and we use trays now. The handle on the RH door came loose and we couldnât find a replacement, so we ordered old Whirlpool handles in matte black (thatâs who made our Kenmore, and that was the only color available) and replaced them all. It cost about 130 bucks to replace all three handles (each fridge door, and freezer). If the fridge lasts another year it will be worth it. The black handles actually look pretty good with the stainless. I thought I would hate it but I actually like it. Custom! To replace our fridge to match our other appliances, we will pay 3500 and I do not want to do that right now.
Posting here in case someone is interested in this dud of a fridge which won âWorst of Showâ at the recent CES:
â The worst overall
Gay Gordon-Byrne, executive director of The Repair Association called the LG âAI Home Inside 2.0 Refrigerator with ThinkQâ the worst product overall. The fridge adds âflashy features,â Gordon-Byrne said, including a screen and internet connection.
âBut these come at a cost,â Gordon-Byrne said. âShorter software support, higher energy consumption, and expensive repairs reduce the fridgeâs practical lifespan, leaving consumers with an expensive, wasteful gadget.ââ
