<p>If you’re starting at the U1 level (coming from a Quebec CEGEP or transferring from another University), I think that you only have to take the courses that your major requires to graduate. </p>
<p>For U0 students (the rest of us), I think that it really depends on your programme. You can check the requirements for the B.Sc Freshman programme here:</p>

<p>Their language courses policy (listed [here](<a href=“http://www.mcgill.ca/artscisao/freshman/selection/scistudents/language/]here[/url]”>http://www.mcgill.ca/artscisao/freshman/selection/scistudents/language/)</a>) you can take a language course if you want to as part of your mandatory 30 credits, but you don’t have to (you can take extra science courses instead)</p>
