<p>Closed courses reflect at least two situations:</p>
<p>1) It is full of upper classmen who registered in the spring;</p>
<p>2) if it is a typical Frosh course, such as Writing 1, the College blocks out spots and opens them only during orientation. That way, attendees each orientation will be able to bid on them.</p>
<p>Either way, once you receive your registration ID during orientation you can check back from time to time – students add/drop over the summer. By constantly checking, my D obtained all of her first choices, even though she attended a later registration time.</p>
