i’m currently a freshman in COM and i live at west… at first when i was assigned it, i thought i’d be switching… especially since they put me in a triple. but i’ve learned to love it here, even the triple (movable and more furniture… and more space):
- the west dining hall is my favorite
- my view of nickerson field and the charles river is awesome (not all rooms have the view though… i think it’s just the odd-numbered rooms)
- i’m a 3-minute walk from a big supermarket (shaw’s) and a 5-minute walk from an asian supermarket and a bunch of asian restaurants (super88… i’m chinese… so it matters to me)
- i like the west bathrooms better than the ones in warren
- west is social enough to meet lots of people, but not as much as warren, where i would probably have less private time (even if it depends largely on YOUR choices to meet people, your dorm still has an impact on your social life.)
- i like the communal bathrooms… theres never been a time when all the stalls or showers were taken… and i dont need to clean them myself. and theres no awkwardness of knock knock “hey john, you done with our private bathroom…? i reeeeally need to ****. oh… you just took a hot shower? that’s fine… a foggy moist bathroom smelling like hot crap”
- i’m a 2-minute walk from BU’s fitrec (fitness and recreation center)… free weight room, basketball, volleyball, pool, lazy river, track, squash, etc
- and even if the walk to most of my classes is 15-20 minutes, i enjoy it on good days

i’m sure that if i was assigned warren, i’d be talking about how i’m close to my classes, how warren is the most social, how warren hasn’t had 4+ fire alarms go off unlike west, how i’m close to a 24/7 printing lab, etc… and i’m sure if was assigned a double, i’d be talking about non-lofted beds and other things. but i learned to like what i was assigned… enough that i’m keeping the same exact room for next year.

your dorm choice doesnt really matter THAT much. plus, don’t forget you’ll be assigned a roommate, who you’ll have absolutely no choice over. you’ll need to learn to get along with him/her as much as you’ll need to adjust to your dorm assignment. so just do 20 minutes of research, pick a dorm, and get it overwith. if you really really hate both your dorm and your roommate when you get here, you can always try for a room swap. but basically none of the dorms are dungeons, and especially for freshman, none of the “freshman” dorms are THAT much better than the rest. lots of you won’t get what you want anyway… since BU wipes its ass with your housing survey.
