I like the footprints brand of shoes, made by birkinstock. They make some very nice maryjane, or dress shoes. Very pricy, very comfy, sometimes available lightly used on Ebay! ![]()

(Thanks binx…didn’t know about shoebuy.com…that’s a pretty big savings!)

I do agree the Me-Toos are pretty basic ballet flats. Here’s another pair I’m looking at…

ldgirl bought a bunch of knee length shorts (some skinny, some cargo) and capri jeans for the beginning of school which is wise since I hear it is 100 degrees in the Research Triangle. She has tons of winter clothes and shoes, but was pretty needy in the summer/hot weather category. I know the Reefs and Rainbows will look cute with everything she has…and I thought the ballet flats would be a cute closed-toe option for the capris and skinny knee length shorts(though not really for the cargo style shorts). Am I barking up the right tree fashion-wise?

I want her to have cute shoes…but I also really want her to keep all her toes when she is riding that scooter.

I loooove those maryjane birks anxiousmom! I want those for ME! :)

I wish that I could influence my D to try the Enzo Liberty, but they’re just not as stylish as what’s currently available, but I will say, that I live in them all year around, and they are so comfy, almost like wearing a slipper, but they are getting more difficult to find in my size with is a narrow width.

Have you looked at Lacoste shoes on Zappos? A lot of those are ballet flat type things, and some of them are pretty cute: ). Yes, they are expensive, but that’s another option for your daughter. Btw, what color is your d’s scooter? I might spot her around campus in the Fall! : -D

cat - Bright red Vespa with bright red Vespa helmet! Cannot miss her
I expect she’ll be a red blur as she makes her way from her 9:30 class at McColl on South to her 11:00 class at Gardner on North too. There is only 15 minutes to spare between those classes…and I’m actually a little worried about it.

She tells me there are quite a few scooters at UNC, many of them Vespas…but she thinks there is only one other red one. (Lots of Carolina Blue Vespas though…lol!) Cool thing is there is a guy who works on Italian motorcycles and scooters at the storage facility where hers is kept in the summer…so he takes care of prepping it for storage and tuneup before she takes it out again. It was pure coincidence that we picked the same storage facility and that his business is in the unit three doors down. Talk about good luck!

If you see her … holler ‘give me a ride ldgirl’ and she’ll stop for ya!

ldmom
D who is a Grad student/TA wears the ballerina flats as her go- to “dressy” shoes when shes in the classroom needing to appear non-undergrad looking!!!
Shes got em in solids, like black and also the funky canvas colored/patterned one from Old Navy, etc.

Ahhhh! ldmom, that is too cute! I will have to keep an eye out for her, lol: ).

thanks cathymee! I’m checking it out. (I love Old Navy btw… they have the best dark rinse boot cut jeans, with a wee bit of stretch, that look like a million bucks.)

You can get comfortable flats nearly anywhere…
try aerosoles or nine west or something of that like if you want comfortable ones to wear daily
payless has a bunch of cute, cheap ones for occasional use. I just got some red patent maryjane style ones for like $12.
and I also recently bought amazing black patent pointy toe flats from NY&Company…they’re great for when you want to look more dressed up but don’t feel like wearing heels.

Have you considered real ballet slippers? I’m starting ballet and I accidentally bought the wrong kind for myself so they’ve become shoes I wear on a day-to-day basis. They’re super comfy but they are on the thin side.

Ballet slippers aren’t meant to be worn outside of the ballet studio, because they aren’t designed to hold up to the abuse of concrete, asphalt, etc.
