Powerful state Sen. John Thrasher has advanced to the next stage of FSU’s search for a new president, but interim FSU President Garnett Stokes did not make the final four.</p>

<p>Michael Martin, the chancellor of the Colorado State University system, Michael Marchase, vice president for research at University of Alabama-Birmingham and Michele Wheatly, former provost at West Virginia are the other four advancing to next week’s on campus interviews.</p>

<p>The FSU Board of Trustees is scheduled to hire a new president on Sept. 23.
