My mother was a real estate agent for more than 30 years. She was basically on call 24/7. Buyers want to look at houses on evenings, weekends, and holidays when they are not working.
Rover dot com is a website where people hire dog walkers, you can put in when you’re available. Most would be daytime hours when people are at work.
@conmama , I would definitely focus on WHY you want to work. If it’s about connecting with people, that ll lead you to a different place (probably ) than if it’s to find an outlet for your desire to have and complete projects. A friend found that working in the shop at her local hospital really met the first need ideally - people visiting patients seemed to really value the space to unload/unwind to someone completely unconnected to the medical issues, etc.
Our school district has a need for SEAs, special educational assistants as well as regular educational assistants. Nice to be on the school schedule, and have less responsibility than a substitute teacher. I may do this in retirement, as have always wanted to work in a school and like the idea of being 1:1 with a kid or working in small groups.
@gardenstategal , I need to be busy doing something, that pays, preferably something I feel, good about. I need to be around people, get out of the house. They are both equally important.
I would steer away, then, from some of the accounting Jobs here even though you would be ideally qualified. Even if you are going to different offices, you’ll be heads down, cranking through numbers when it sounds like you would prefer to engage with people. Retail sounds good for you. Also, a lot of fitness centers, vets, etc., need someone at the front desk, and your ability to do light bookkeeping while you are there could be appealing.
I think it’s great that you know what you want out of this!
I really enjoyed the parts I had in planning DDs wedding. I would be very happy being an assistant to a wedding planner…and yes, I know it involves weekends and evenings…but talk about a happy time to be with people!
I used to think the event planning would be fun, and in some ways still think it CAN BE. Sadly, I’ve been to a lot of events where it’s mainly stressful. There are often a lot of details and if the couple/org/family wants to keep control and doesn’t delegate until the last minute and things aren’t coming together as envisioned, it can be tough on everyone.
I got myself a new part-time gig. I think it will be fun. My last job was at a library (the work was lots of fun - the people not so much). In my new job, I will be marketing books primarily to libraries and schools, so my library experience should help.
