Future cmc student, double major cs

So it looks like you can reasonably complete the CS “Sequence” at CMC (6 courses) plus an econ major:

[Unofficial Degree Audit Checklist, Office of the Registrar, Claremont McKenna College](http://www.cmc.edu/registrar/requirements/cklist.php)

The total comes out to 27 courses, which is fewer than the typical 32 courses for a CMCer.

If you want to fulfill Mudd’s requirements for a CS Major, you’ll have to add 6 more courses, plus another one if you want to do a senior thesis in both CS and Econ. That’s 34. Plus, that’s the bare minimum, and you won’t have as much depth as other Econ and CS majors, which might be to your disadvantage when finding jobs. Of course, that’s assuming you’re looking for jobs in consulting or programming. Maybe you could find a job that requires both (I’m not really aware of anything like this aside from creating own startup company).

It’s normal at Mudd to take 5 courses a semester (40 courses total). I’d recommend doing this if you really want significant depth in both fields. Going to CMC though, you’ll find lots of distractions and you’ll always feel like you’re working harder than your friends. That’ll make it tough to keep a 5 course load. Plus, you have to petition for an overload at CMC, which requires a 10.5 (aka a 3.5) GPA–not trivial if you’re taking classes at Mudd.

So I’m confident you could finish a CS Sequence with econ. It’ll be harder for you to end up with a Double Major on your degree though.
