With APs, can a kid finish FYE and transition to major in one semister. Biomechanical.
Historically yes, but BME is one of the most difficult majors to transition because they cap the number of students. Your child will need to have a very high gpa in the next series of stem classes.
There is also new language on the site this year saying at least 20 credits need to be done on campus before transitioning to major so I would suggest your student call the department and ask. Biomedical Engineering - Purdue University
A few more thoughts now that I’m on my computer…
Be sure that your child tries the old Purdue final exams before deciding to use their AP credit. Especially for the calc sequence but also for the other core science classes. They will need a solid foundation before moving on and they don’t want to self sabotage their GPA by advancing too quickly into harder courses, especially the very first semester.
Also understand that transitioning to major early doesn’t necessarily mean graduating any sooner, especially in a small major like BME. Required classes won’t be offered every semester so your student could end up being out of sequence by transitioning earlier. (Large majors like mech e offer almost every required course every single semester, including the summer, but not so for the smaller ones like BME, chem e, etc…).
Her other thought was mechanical Eng with biology minor, she can also fit in a data Celine certificate, she is inclined to do this , I have not thought about that spring/fall offer,
There is more flexibility with mechanical engineering. Both in terms of class offerings/scheduling but also with post graduation employment. The beauty of Purdue is she doesn’t have to decide right away!
