<p>Kids here pretty much stick to witch, werewolf, vampire, skeleton, mummy, zombie, pirate…
I admit that 1/3 of them I wasn’t sure what they were but I didn’t see any Elsas, perhaps in West Seattle.
We did get mostly kids that were so little, I had to take off my mask so they could see my face.
It started dumping about 7:30, and by 8 the streets were empty, except someone who I hope is sick to their stomach took what was left from a big bowl of candy, ( which was at least a lb or two) while I was admiring my decorations.
I didn’t even realize anyone was out.</p>
<p>Six Giants, no Elsas. We had a smaller crowd than usual. The last kids showed up around 9.</p>
<p>1 Elsa, 2 Jakes from State Farm, and an inflatable blueberry. Weird year, but we got rid of 150 pieces of candy that will not be tormenting me over the next month.</p>

<p>We had a total of 3 “kids” who walked over in one group (one kid under 12 & two accompanying said girl), plus another 3 who were carried by 3 adults. I gave out gummy fruity candies to the first 3 kids and McDonald’s certificates. The younger 3 who were carried got soy chocolate milk (at the adult’s request–offered candy or the milk) and McDonald’s certificates, plus the adults each got a gummy fruit candy. No one else came to our house. Didn’t pay much attention to the costumes, was just surprised we had so few kids. These kids said they were grandkids of neighbors from our street.</p>

It’s not Disney marketing, that’s for sure. Based on what’s going on in the Disney parks, it’s clear that Disney had no clue that Frozen would be as big as it became (and, even as a Disney fan, for no good reason that I can discern). It just took off, bigger than any film Disney has released in a very long time - maybe ever.</p>
<p>Oh, and don’t play that drinking game at any Disney park (most do serve alcohol) - you’d never get from the front gates to the first ride!</p>

I still have a few younger kids. . .12yo and her friends were Frozen characters. My d was Sven (the reindeer). 4th grader is obsessed with monkeys. She has been a monkey 3 years in a row. 10th grader and her friend had Lucky Charms and Cheerios PJ pants, with “blood-stained” T-shirts–they said they were “cereal killers.” This was for a party–but they did trick-or-treat one street. I think high schoolers are too old, but it seems that more of them are still going out. I don’t really mind–as long as they make an effort to put on a costume.
There are hundreds of kids in our neighborhood, but not many make it to our house (25ish?) since we are at the tail end of the subdivision, at the end of a dark cul-de-sac. I don’t even remember any Elsas. It was so cold that most kids had coats over their costumes this year, so I couldn’t tell what they were.</p>

One of the jobs that D2 has is working for a party princess company, doing children’s birthday parties. Since last February or so, when they started offering Elsa and Anna, that’s pretty much the only character she’s dressed up as, every weekend, multiple times a weekend. She is SO tired of singing Let It Go, but she knows that it’s bringing in much needed money for her! One of her performances went viral… getting over 100,000 YouTube hits (part of it was the darling birthday girl who D2 lured into singing along). The party company expects Elsa and Anna characters to remain strong into the beginning of next year at least.</p>

<p>@teriwtt–I hope I have this right–I think we figured out that a young man I know went to school with your D in musical theater? So, if I’m correct, he’s doing a “The Voice” type competition in NYC (not televised), but as one of his songs, he did a standout job of singing Let it Go. </p>
<p>Very cool @garland! I just checked D2’s Facebook page, and she doesn’t have him listed in her friends list (perhaps he doesn’t do Facebook anymore, as many young adults are choosing not to do). But I do think they’re in touch through the a cappella alumni group. I will pass along the information. I was just thinking about him a couple of weeks ago - was listening to my iPod and I have a CD they made on there - he has the solo on their version of CSN&Y’s Love The One You’re With. I love that song! Is there a YouTube video I can watch somewhere?</p>

<p>So, D2 was aware of the competition. She said she gets invites all the time, but of course, it’s difficult as she lives in LA! She also said his dad posts videos. </p>
<p>yes! His dad is a good friend of ours–I see the posts on FB every week. I just can’t make it in to the city on work nights, unfortunately. </p>
