If it is at all possible to have someone come and stay with you in your new place, try to schedule it now. The friend or relative if they can travel to you would only have to stay at the most 2 nights. You may suffer each night with the pain until the surgery is done. If the stones are small enough and they can perform laparoscopic surgery, you should have a quick recovery and be ready for classes. It’s always best if you can face surgery being well rested and nutritionally sound.

^Romani, regarding post #60—good for you. I do think gallbladder disease can run in families. My father had it and big surprise to me, I had it too. I’m neither fat nor do I sit around eating fat filled foods. It happens to young people too. A 13 year old girl on the hospital floor I was on had hers out the day before I did.

Follow up with the specialist and see what he has to say about the test results and your medical history. Post back and let us know how things progress. Good luck.

Will do! I’ll call him/her (can’t tell from name… lol) tomorrow morning.

Thanks all for your support and stories :). I feel better knowing how many people have gone through this.

I was in my 20’s when I had my gallbladder out and was very slim. My mother had also had hers out in her 20’s.

I didn’t have stones, but I had very thick “sludge,” which was blocking it all the same. Still had excruciating pain that was worse than labor pains when it would get going. At least labor pains give you a couple of minutes of relief between contractions.

So many excellent posts after mine (single digit post). I understand waiting until your insurance coverage improves. However- do not wait if anything gets worse, you could incur the very expensive and adverse effects that offset the waiting. You sound like a great person- good luck with the health issues and school.

If you are brave, google the olive oil lemon gallbladder treatment while you are waiting for surgery. It is the only thing that gave my kid relief from symptoms! Worked pretty quickly, too.

I had a HIDA scan, too, which is where they figured out I had lots of sludge vs. gallstones. Had a laparoscopy on a non-emergency basis. Surgery was Thurs., went home that afternoon and slept for the rest of the day, felt great the next day, and went back to work on Monday. Fat consumption can trigger attacks and my doc recommended I reduce my fat intake afterwards, though it was not necessarily a requirement.

I had four small incisions, which were the only reminder of the procedure, as they tool longer to heal than any residual discomfort I had after the surgery (which was minimal). Don’t think I took anything stronger than ibuprofen.

Gallbladder surgery used to be a much bigger deal because doctors would have to cut through muscle on one’s side to get at it. That took quite a while to heal and rehab.

I know lots of people who had their gall bladders out, including my dad. Most were just fine. Unfortunately, my SIL had issues. Her stitches got infected & she ended up back in the hospital. She assumed the pain she had was normal, and she waited a bit too long to go in. Be sure to take it easy, don’t overdo things, let people help you … and if something hurts a lot, don’t think it’s wimpy to complain long & loud! Best of luck to you. It should be just fine!!

I had my gallbladder out in June. The surgery was a piece of cake for me. It was done laparascopically. I have 4 small scars. The one under my belly button did hurt for about two weeks- not bad, but just enough to know that something had happen there. I believe that is where the camera goes in. The best advise I received was to walk. So after the first day ( surgery at 8:30, home by 1), I made myself do short walks around the kitchen. Every day I walked farther and by day 4 or 5, I was just about back to normal. As for diet, they told me I could eat whatever I want (but be sensible) and I should have no problems; with your diet you shouldn’t have any worries.

The reason they didn’t do surgery right away probably is to let things calm down. They don’t want to remove the gall bladder if it is inflamed if they don’t have to. I have several friends who also had theirs out this year (we are the prime age for attacks) and all the surgeries have gone smoothly.

Best of luck!

I had a single large stone, so the gallbladder needed to come out. I had to stay overnight because they had to do more cautery than they thought. The gallbladder was adhered to my liver. I recovered as I always do with some quirky complication. My had a attack thought he was having a heart attack, it was not the usual gallbladder pain, it was more midline because the stone was stuck in a bile duct. so he had an ERCP then a week later he gallbladder removed. He recovered very well.

I don’t see how this follows. A vegetarian who eats a lot of nuts, avocados, olive oil, or fried anything would have a high fat diet (does not mean that this was actually the case for your daughter).

Romani, glad you’re following up on this and hope you can get a good course of action once you have all the info you need.

Feel better, romani

Been thinking about you. Hope you are feeling better today.

Thank you guys. I’ve actually been up in pain for the last few hours so my dad is on his way to get me to take me to urgent care.

UGH.

Sorry to hear that! Let us know how you are doing, romani! You have a lot of worried surrogate parents here thinking about you, lol.
Take care!

Thanks :). Urgent care told me to go to ER so I’m here waiting for results… again. I’m in a different ER, one I trust more. They gave me something dilaudid. Not sure what it is, but I’m definitely not in pain anymore! Haha

The doctor said he had no idea why they let me out of the ER last week. I’m full of gallstones and being admitted now. Surgery will be today. :)

And then this will all be behind you!! Excellent!!!

True! And if all goes well, I can still go on vacation this week lol.
